IK Multimedia Tone X One?

Well sheeit....treble got cranked to ten without me knowing it. Too easy to mess up a setting on this thing even when you have it locked

Got bored and decided to pick one up. Will mess around with it tomorrow…
I am actually thinking about it too at the price they sell for
Will be curious to hear yiu thoughts on the captures compared to the QC

Trying to figure out how to get it hooked up to the computer now. I disliked the software enough after I bought Tonex SE last year I didn't bother using it. Much prefer hardware.

Launching Tonex software, it didn't recognize the unit or have any place to manage it. Guessing it's an old version, but it didn't prompt me to update. Had to launch the IK Product Manager. Then downloaded a 1 GB update. It got hung up for five minutes and finally finished.

Relaunched the software, and then told I have to go back to the Product Manager and register that. Couldn't find it, but realized it's a separate "Register" button.

Back to Tonex software, and it still tells me the device isn't registered. So I close and relaunch. No dice, still not registered.

Close the Product Manager, relaunch everything, still doesn't work.

Now I've been Googling for about 10 minutes trying to find the answer, and there's no clear path to resolve. A lot of people on IK forums apparently just have open tickets for days.

If I can't get it sorted out soon I'm just boxing it back up and returning it tomorrow. Ain't got time in my life to deal with this kind of shitty software.

Edit: Finally got it, I unauthorized the Tonex SE software, reauthorized, and relaunched. Jesus Christ.

When I was looking up info earlier today I saw people bitching to the IK rep about this and figured they were out of bounds. Nope. This is a legit issue that needs to get fixed.

Okay I finally am getting the hang of this thing.

I wired up a pedalboard with the following:

Jackson Golden Boy Mini > Tonex One > HX Stomp

For the Tonex, there's a couple things to be careful of:

Make sure in the app settings to NOT use the Tonex for ins our outs. This will try to run two profiles at once and cause tons of issues and noise!

Instead, I found that I can drag profiles or models or whatever the hell they are called up into the current section of the library.

But you have to be aware, if the Tonex is in preset toggle mode, there's different presets compared to if it's in stomp (on/off) mode!

Now that all that is out of the way, some thoughts:

The stock Super Reverb patch is really good. It goes from clean to crunchy depending on gain settings and takes pedals well. You could probably just get away with using the OOTB preset with a couple tweaks honestly.

It also works really well going into the HX Stomp, letting that do all the lifting for stereo effects which the Stomp is great at. Then you can do things like dual delays, dual reverbs, modulation, all that fun stuff.

I may have to try running it in the loop of the HX Effects. That could be fun.

All that said, still not sure it's a material improvement over just running an amp model in a modeler, especially to bring in the hassle of pedal power and all that stuff. For someone trying to go ampless and already has the spaceship P&W wet dream pedalboard it makes a lot more sense.

Will also say that as cute and cheap as the pedal is, it's a real pain in the ass using it and trying to figure out all the menu settings. Love the size, but the dual press and hold alt key with the LED colors is not as easy as a screen.

One more update before I start doing actual productive non guitar stuff today:

I've had some REALLY good luck finding free Tonex captures. I've tried maybe a dozen and half have been very good to excellent. Found a really good AC20 and a Dirty Shirley too. The lower gain takes pedals well and the higher gain cleans up well.

Also for some reason, I'm not fighting the cabinets like I typically do with modelers. They sound a little homogenous but in a good way, if that makes sense.

Edit: accidentally found the tuner mode. It actually works surprisingly well, not far off from my Peterson clip.

Yeah, pardon me for thinking "locked" meant "locked"
What does “locked” mean then? Maybe you can’t save the preset changes?

Glad you are finding some success. Despite the software woes, I’ve found some great tones in many styles.

I have a pile of 2204 and Mesa Mark III direct captures I shot using my 1960A cab as a load, feel free to check those out if you like those types of crunch tones.

Gonna return the ToneX One today...not necessarily because it's bad but because I just bought a new pellet smoker grill :facepalm

Also I've been doing a ton of captures with my QC finally and it's way easier because I don't need more hardware, and it can run multiple captures at a time (like a TON of captures).
