Fender Tone Master FR-10 and FR-12 "FRFR" cabs

And when you call one in to Fender now, rather than as for a serial #, they ask for you to send in a cell phone video recording. Then they somehow - without any knowledge of the mic or the recording level or anything - decide whether the hiss on the recording is loud enough to constitute a problem.

Hiss a long-fart while recording

I read in Reddit and some forums about many "new" units (even with different serial number than first version) that would still have the hiss. The only way to know was testing them.

I'm guessing Fender had enough units returned and they decided to finally fix their fault.
Wow, that's insanity lol. I remember on some forum, maybe TGP? That they actually figured out what was causing the hiss and were fixing them for members for a cost. That fact that Fender can't seem to get this right is nuts.

Isn't TOP actually owned by Fender as of recent? That'd be ironic.

Yes, there's a mod that some guy is selling, that fixes it. But it's not like replacing a screw, so not many people jumped on it.

For a long time Fender didn't acknowledge the issue, but I guess people returning units made stores upset, and they're finally making new batches without the issue, as they should.

It's been a poor launch from Fender, but at least it's finally being fixed.

is there a way to tell the new batch from an old one without trying it and listening for hiss?

AFAIK, currently, no. All currently available units (and I think there aren't many in stock these days) can potentially have the issue.

Now, in the new batch that's coming in July, according to the store I recently contacted to order one, there should be no hiss.

However, I will try it anyway when they arrive.

I had a fr12 with a hiss issue and it was within the correct serial number.
Fender fixed it @ No cost to me not even shipping.
 Don. :idk
Probably at that point Fender accepted they should start doing that or the product would be doomed.

Question on the Fender BMT + Cut
does anyone who owns these cabs actually use the BMT? Provided they are in fixed placement /environment
i can see the benefit when gigging and each venue is very different the BMT can come in handy for sure, but if in a fixed position a say a room?
same for the Cut is that mostly used when gigging and venue hopping?
Because your modeler can do the same thing and even more precise.

I do on occasion but not regularly.

I find them most useful during the initial setup with a given modeler but I may change from the FM9 to the Axe FX III or to my Tone Master Imperial Preamp so I dial in the FR for each.

In addition, on a given day I may feel like everything is too dark or too bright or needs more or less mids.

Particularly in relation to my Fractal gear, it's nice to just be able to grab a knob and make a simple global adjustment.

With that said, I can't remember the last time I made tone adjustments on my FR but I do periodically.

Just spitballing here Mike.
Would it make sense that volume differences would be an important factor in whether or not you make adjustments on the Fender "FRFR"?

I've set my pair of FR10s and don't really touch them too much on EQ when I have them here in my music room. I run the bass low at around 9:00 to kill any boominess, middle and treble up at about 1:00, cut at 12:00. Any further adjustments I'll make on my Stomp XL. Sometimes I'll run a clean amp preset without a cab IR so the settings above also work well for me.

I’d mostly approach the tone controls as global correction tools to help you gel in the different weird environments we all end up in when gigging sometimes.

I’d say set and forget on a per-gig basis.

You've getting a more pleasing experience than the Powerturd but not flatter or more accurate imo. Not necessarily a necessary upgrade for you Stone.
