Fender Tone Master FR-10 and FR-12 FRFR cabs

Fender just announced a Tweed version of the FR-12. Looks pretty nice but, holy smokes Batman, $750?!?! What's up with the pricing?

Even the vanilla FR-12 is now selling for $700, which is ~30% over the launch price a year and a half ago.

Holy shit, that sucks really bad.

It's still 555€ in Thomann. I think I'm preordering it before they update too.

I do like the way it looks.

Remove the Tone Master badge and with a FM9 on the floor it would look like a legit vintage rig.

With the V3 mod and installation it would be pushing $1K and I'm not so enamored with the look that I'd get one since I already have two black ones but sill...looks purty pretty.

Hypersonic arrived today. Looks great, sounds great, obnoxiously loud. No hiss. I haven’t checked the FR212 because it’s back at the practice spot, but do the fender versions have a Velcro-on grille too? I want a black screen for that one.

Is the eq the same general sweep as the one in the FR preamp?

Right after launch, in the megathread on TOP I told Stilwell that a Tweed version would sell like crazy. I have two of the original FR12s, and no way I'm shelling out for two more at $1500 just to have the Tweed. I'll go buy some walnut and build myself a pair of Boogie-style wicker & wood cabs to rehouse the guts in if I really want something cool.

Circling back to this one as I am now curious about it. What’s the verdict on the FR–12 versus something like a BAM200 + Cab? Is it that close to the amp and cab or should I just stay with the BAM and call it good?

It’s closer than a PA wedge, but it’s still not “amp in the room” and it’s not supposed to be. You can sort of make it sound more like it by dialing up the CUT until it’s dark like a real cab pointed at your ankles.

So, I got a line on a cheap FR-10 with hiss and decided to pick it up and order the Archangel board for it. Then the deal on the FR fell through (someone else wanted it before I could pick it up and I told the seller it was OK), so now I have a soon to be delivered preamp board and no FR!

What are your latest thoughts on the 10 vs 12?

If you don’t need big bottom end and your bandmates have some dynamics the 10 would more than suffice. The 12 (I have the hypersonic, from what I can tell purely aesthetic differences) holds up just fine in my metal band, the 212 is more than I’d need but it’s nice to have, lol.

Go 10. More compact and easy to lug around. Also theoretical tighter bottom end and it still has MASSIVE bottom end. I cant ever imagine needing more..

I should add that the one I got is newer and has significantly less hiss than the one I was originally buying, but still has more than it should.
