Electra-Dyne incoming.

Yeah. If I spent $2k on an escort for a night and didn't have a good time I'd be screwed and
out of luck.

I am not screwed and out of luck with the Ibby. :banana

I once ordered a guitar from Sweetwater. During my first setup found out the truss rod was either stripped or backed out to its furthest point. Even though I got the action and relief where I wanted, there was no more room for adjustment. So back it went.

It hurt because the flame top was gorgeous and the others in stock weren’t QUITE as nice.

Mesa likes recommend you use their tubes only. I know that doesn't mean you have to but ugh. I am going to futz with the preamp tubes this evening and cross my fingers that the Bugera turd collection has some useful (barely not microphonic) ones I can test with.

I think GC carries mesa tubes, seems like theres only one solution for them to make this right.... :satan

I've only had a tube go bad on me once, and it was a preamp tube in a rectoverb 50. What was happening sounds exactly like what you're describing... hopefully the bugeras can pull through and indicate an easy fix

So did some testing.

Had 2 12ax7s. Swapped out the phase inverter, no change. Swapped out V1, no change. Swapped out 1-3; no change. Ran direct into power amp with my Stomp at 45 and 90w and it was PUNISHING. SRSLY; this oversized 112 and even the speaker SLAYED. Problem is; I want to use the preamp too. And I wouldn't want to move this ever. But for a leave it in the basement and rip faces off powered speaker; JESUS CHRIST :satan

I will be calling GC tomorrow and seeing what we can do. If they want try sending me a full compliment of preamp tubes to test; I'll let them. But if they do and it still doesn't work; it's going back. Unfortunately.

Terrible situation. Wish it would have been an easy fix.

Also I’d advise contacting the store it shipped from directly, my local GC wouldn’t help with the tubes I had to talk with the point of origin

Tubes were Installed. Couple of the tube covers came off during shipping but everything was intact.

I'm going to return it. The more I think on it the more it seems like an issue in the preamp and I'm not fucking with that. I'll take a GC credit or just a refund. Neither issue is Boogie's fault but this is 2 for 2 with them so I'll be taking a break from them.

Yeah, really sucks @JiveTurkey ! Especially because it's with the beloved (to me) Electra Dyne.... :(

I know that feeling though, when you just gotta return something and move on.

(You could try one trip to a tech, but maybe you don't want to be bothered. I've always brought used amps to a tech at the start for a tune up and new tubes, and they've all been perfect after that.)

That sucks man. That's the worst if it's happened more than one time with a mfg, makes it very hard to go back that way in the future.

Yeah the closest tech that will work on something Boogie is 2.5hrs away. And when I called asking about repair work on the BL; he spent 20 minutes telling me how it was going to be months before he could get to it, Boogie and Gibson f'd him over blahblahblah.

If GC wants to refund me like 50% of my money back and I'll use it as a 90/45 Simulclass power amp; I might entertain that offer :bagOther than that; ugh. Was looking around last night on GC used to see what they had but nothing was really catching my attention.

I don't know what my criteria is anymore :rofl I wanted a Fireball for YEARS back in the HC days but let that "dream" go. I looked at an Iconic head for more than a few minutes but 2 preamp tubes and size of the head put me off that trail. I saw some used Invectives that were intriguing despite being huge and more money laid out on my end.

I really like the small cinder block 45/90watt head vibe but I am probably going to give up that thought process since that's all Boogie. And I had the "best of the best" on that in the JP.

Just as a lark, did you try calling Mesa? They'll work with people on the phone even if you're not the original owner. They talked me through things on secondhand (and other people's) amps several times.

No. They were great as far as honoring the BL warranty for me; I just haven't got my packing materials (or mustered the desire to spend the money on shipping it to them). I am sure they would be great but I don't have the energy to start the process of getting it sorted a second time. I am sure they would be great about it. I have a timecrunch situation on top of this where the local GC is where we are gigging tomorrow and taking it back is just too easy to get done comparatively.

I'm going to return it.
