So I’ve soft heard about these guys in passing. My buddy Art sent me a link to a few posts on FB about their builds. They have a 4-channel beast with a Blackface/800/SLO/Mark IIC+ all in one with separate eq and controls for all channels. The 5 band for the Mark is a fixed value.

I did some digging and seemingly all the rumpus is that the stuff is built super well and sounds killer.

Company is called Crab Effects out of the Ukraine. I got this guy off reverb for $460 shipped. It’s his version of the Randall Satan. I’m going to venture to say, it’s entirely possible it’s built better than the Randall. Here’s the kicker. Brand new this amp would be $660 shipped to the US. $860 for that 4 channel beast.

Here’s a vid I found of the Satan

Obviously full report once it gets here. I’ll pull the chassis and post guy shots as well. Going to take it to my amp guy here, Carl Popek. He’s a well known cat, and have him see what’s what. If the build is sound, I’m getting the guys Mark IIC+ build for sure.

Stop it already. Please, no more posts about Crab Amplification.

I don't need another amp ...

Seriously, congrats on the incoming amp. I look forward to reading your take when it arrives.

Woah crazy timing, I just placed a deposit on the Marcus III from him yesterday hahaha

Definitely +1 on gut shots and curious to hear what you think of this thing and the tone and build quality!!

Ok here’s a gut shot they sent my bud who just ordered the Marcus. Not sure what model but looks ok to me. Naturally non labeled components but it’s coming from Eastern Europe and a new amp is $600… I’m not expecting Friedman builds.

Marcus is high on my GAS list now for sure! Been chatting with the builder off and on all morning. Marcus and Benzin are what I’m looking at as long as this guy arrives and is solid. For the price, they seem a no-brainer.

Man, this is making me GAS. I messaged him about the Dragon, and really weighing whether I can afford it or if I should wait a month or two. You guys are EVIL!

The skeptic in me still think there’s gotta be a catch but I’m cautiously optimistic

If it sounds even ballpark to a mark and isn’t lighting itself on fire, what’s the worse case scenario? I have a Mark-y amp to leave at my drummers and can hoard all my boogies at home?

I'm really curious how using toroidal transformers will impact the performance of the amplifier. Simply because we are accustomed to seeing large square transformers in traditional guitar amplifier builds does not mean they are better.

Typically, toroidal transformers are more efficient, so less heat will be generated. They also leak significantly less magnetic flux, so less noise / buzzing / vibration.

They also weigh less, so I don't see any obvious downside.
