Best Cheap Modeller 2026

In my opinion, I also think that features and switched should be what it's needed for getting the most useful device.

In this regard, I'd go for the GP200 (8 switches, expression pedal, NAM captures even losing some quality in conversion).

I'd maybe look at the Zoom G6 also (I always found Zoom effects to be better than cheap brands ones). But having less switches and no NAM, for me the Valeton would have the edge.

I wouldn't go Boss (I don't like their amps), Mooer (I prefer amp sims from Zoom a lot better), Blackstar, Flamma, etc.

I think the GP-200 is a much more complete unit. Balanced XLR out, MIDI I/O and in case the FW is similar to the GP-50 (which I assume it is), you can globally turn cab simulation on/off, which might be very useful here and there.
But I do agree on Zoom's FX, I like them quite a bit and my old MS-50G will actually see a return on my board once I've decided on how things are supposed to be like.

Pretty hard to beat a used HX stomp

As much as I still like my Stomp, I tend to disagree. If you want the kinda modularity, it's fantastic, but in case you don't need that, IMO there's stuff as good.
If I was looking for a standalone thing, I'd at least look for a Stomp XL - at least for me, the little amount of switches on the vanilla Stomp is an issue I was constantly running into.

Fully agree.

The Stomp is a milestone (milestomp?) in guitar pedals, for sure. It was (and still is) a ridiculous amount of features for the size and price.

But, as Sascha says, I agree that, as a standalone device for a young giging guitarist, it will be less useful than supposedly inferior units with more switches. And nowadays, cheaper units are not that inferior tonewise. Actually, I prefer converted NAM captures to the Helix amp sims. And I prefer Zoom effects to helix ones (just to give a couple examples).

A used GP200 should go for less than 200€. That´s hard to beat for a young guitarist in a budget. He should have enough versatility and tone quality until he has some more money and GAS starts misleading him as it´s already done to most of us (at least, to me! :rofl).

I could perfectly have my needs covered with a GP200. It´s just that it´s so funny to get dominated by GAS...

From there on, you get the cost exponentially increasing for a not-even-remotely-exponential tone quality improvement.

:sofa

I usually use Neutral Archetyytheae days. But. I bought a Moier GE150 Plus for my daughter. For $160, it sounds beautiful! Please, take a look at it. There are many demos on YouTube.

Actually the PodGo is a good alternative. It’s really underrated around here.

Yes to Pod Go. And if possible, get wireless one. Kinda cheap, if you find used one.
I have Stadium XL, Helix Floor and Tonex but when I go to play with my friends I always take
Pod Go with me. Mostly playing bass, but sometimes guitar.

Hello!
I'm m17 playing guitar in a rock cover band and for our next gig I was planning to use an amp modeller for all my sounds so I don't need to mic off any real amps anymore. I'm looking for an allrounder rig for 2026 without having to spend too much. I was thinking about a Boss gx1, Boss gx10, a Nanocortex or even a Headrush Flex Prime.
Any suggestions? Really thankful for anyone who can help me out!

What kind of bands do you want to sound like and what kind of effects do you need to use? Is your music pretty complex or straightforward?

Actually, I prefer converted NAM captures to the Helix amp sims.

I partially agree. As I own both a Stomp and a GP-50, I obviously compared them - and while the "native" amp models of the GP mostly suck (2-3 are quite serviceable, though), I have some NAM captures imported that I like just as much as most Stomp models. I still think the Super Reverb and Voltage are outstanding, but one of the Bassman captures and a Plexi capture I found are just as good, only lacking the detailed editing options.
However, the thing that's really lacking on the GP-50 (the GP seems to be vastly more versatile here, can't tell about the quality) is additional drive pedal blocks (they're not too great, either). This IMO is where the Stomp really shines, so in case building your core tones around pedal platform amps and dirt pedals is your schtick, the Stomp very likely wins.

I'm actually considering one myself for an ongoing kinda regular show (2-5 gigs a month or so). Could just leave the unit on a truck if I wanted.

Absolutely.
Well ok, I think you get plenty of overall improvemts, too, possibly more solid hardware as well.
But the bang-for-the-buck factor is defenitely decreasing.

Almost forgot about it. Defenitely a viable alternative.

Btw, I was wrong. The Valeton GP-200 appears to not being able to load an imported NAM file (aka "snaptone" in Valeton lingo) and an IR simultaneously.
Wouldn't affect myself much, but it might be interesting to some.

Thats really a deal killer for me. Its why my Sonicake is collecting dust somewhere. All my captures are DI so they can be used with real cabs or IR's. I could do full captures just for converted NAM, but I use both deal amps and captures with different cabs/IR's so then I would need to keep multiple captures of each amp at the same settings but different cabs. Yuck! I'll take Tonex or something else before doing that.

It's actually quite weird that you can load two snaptone simultaneously (for the drive and amp blocks) but not an amp snaptone and an IR (and maybe skip the option to load a drive snaptone).

I read a lot of these posts and it’s amazing how in these days with these young musicians their parents buy them stuff and they have no skin in the game not saying it’s bad I mean, do what you want but shit when I was that young I had a struggle to buy my own gear. Teach my self guitar trade one guitar for a better one take whatever gigs I could get it was a struggle. I guess kids are so lucky nowadays to have parents that buy them stuff expensive stuff and yeah to you 160 bucks is not expensive but to a kid that age that’s a lot of money.
Just like in my neighborhood, I see all these kids on these electric motorcycles, which are technically bikes, but they look just like a motorcycle and they’re like three grand and these kids are just so irresponsible on them. They fly down the street doing wheelies like for two blocks straight, they don’t wear helmets and I just wonder why do these parents do that?
The other day I saw two kids riding those motorcycles I call a motorcycles, but their bicycles that look like motorcycles right and they’re all electric and there was another kid with them and he had a regular bike and he was like getting exercise trying to keep up with them, and I thought it was kind of funny because that kid was in way better shape than the other two
