Axe-FX (A Love Story?) Rd.1

  1. What is the name of the scene page that shows the scene details in text, and more importantly how do you get back to it once you’ve erroneously gotten off it in AxeEdit?
  2. Is there a shortcut to jump to the end of the IR library where the user IRs live? (AxeEdit)
  3. Is there a view that only shows user loaded IRs? (AxeEdit)

I’m doing absolutely nothing “productive” with this (or formerly the FM3) because I’m still in kid-in-the-candy-store mode every time I fire it up. Just no bad sounds in the thing. Need to force myself to commit to a tone or two and record something.

I debating going full dork and printing the block guide in color double sided and throwing it in a nice laminated folder for casual reading while I’m on the couch pretending to give a shit about Domino Masters with the family. Such a badass reference guide.
It took me about 3-5 months to stop messing around with all of the different tonal options - because updates and new toys

At about 2 weeks in I had to force myself to put productive practice first, then geek out over all of the options.

It can be tough. You have a lot more options than back in 2008-2011.

It's pretty amazing comparing the original Lars AxeEdit options (a great editor), and the options I see people screen share now.

1- I didn't know that page exists.
2 and 3-

And don't forget about the color coding feature when you find an IR you dig-

Lastly, I save Cab blocks in the library I associate with certain amps/tones-

This is why I don't mind the create-your-own organization aspects of it, there's multiple ways to speed up the process of getting to your preferred IR's.

I have so much to learn....

I dig that @Whizzinby ! Gives me Oceansize or Dredg vibes.

Thanks man. Means a lot. It’s so rough around the edges that my OCD is making me tweak out, but sometime you just got to make the most of the time you get to try to do something “productive”. :ROFLMAO:

What did you use on the III?

Cleans: SLO100, Studio Compressor, Deluxe Memory Man, Tunnel Reverb, and I think it was the Dimension chorus but I’d have to go back and check.

Dirt: JVM410 Orange, 808, and my York Bogner IR.

Bass: I think it was the SVT1? I’m not even sure if I used a bass cab on this one, I picked some random 1x15 that started with an S. I was trying to haul ass to complete this thing before the fam got restless. :ROFLMAO:

Objectively terrible, but I gave myself a couple hours this evening to figure out how to record exclusively with the Axe.

Major Deftones vibes from that one. Sounds friggin sweet!

So random thoughts using it to record.

Wayyyyyyy different workflow. Followed the manual (I can read it after all!!) and was doing the “processed” track + DI at the same time. I think I read the page on the IO config for every track I created. :ROFLMAO: Once I got the DI’s down for everything I then reconfigured everything to reamp so I could do some quick tweaking on the tones. I think next time through it will be somewhat easier because I’m saving this project as a template. That is probably 90% of the battle. (Workflow)

Im unbelievably happy with the dirt tones considering how little mixing I did. (And really I did minimal tone tweaking on the amp) The fractal models do not have that obnoxious low end thing going on like my Neural plugs, where I have to do drastic low cuts and then multiband compression. For essentially only doing a low cut and letting Neutron do it’s thing, I’m very pleased with the dirty tones.

I’ve never been overly pleased with my gained up tones with the plugs, but I think the Axe is going to be great once I really dig in and harden a couple presets.

Clean tones I just wanted to use that DMM and Tunnel verb :chef I need to turn my attention back to dark 80’s clean vibes now.:ROFLMAO:

DIIV vibes, but with significantly bigger bawls in the latter section. Noice!

I may well be very biased towards the Axe-FX, but in terms of guitar tones, that may be the clearest and most defined recording I've heard from you Whizz. Am I imagining that?
