Axe-FX (A Love Story?) Rd.1

I’m confused re: “professional grade equipment”.

I run the FM3 to a Tascam Model 12 mixer which routes to a pair of Adam Audio T7V monitors.
Ah... You didn't mention that before. Going into a mixer is another place the volume could be affected before getting to the speakers.

Definitely use +4dB based on the specs posted above by @SwirlyMaple.

That’s new to the equation over the last couple days though. I’ve been near diming the volume knobs going direct too. Thinking this output boost might be the trick.

I really like the word you used there: the “grain” of the distortion. I kept trying to think of a way to describe it, but grain is the perfect descriptor. I agree completely with you — the grain of Fractal’s distortion sounds very natural compared to real amps, and I hear it especially in the sustain and decay.

When I first realized I hated my guitar tone when I was 14, I explained it to my uncle as “My amp sounds like 60 grit sandpaper and EJ’s sounds like 1000 grit” and that was enough of an indicator of what I was talking about to point me in the right direction.

I don’t think this is FM3 related but I’m getting way hotter output on the left than right side. I checked the output block in FM3 Edit and the levels appear even there, and the balance knob is centered. I checked the mixers pan knob and it down the pipe too, but on the meter I can clearly see the left is cooking more than the right. Thoughts?

Switch your cables to see what happens.

Side note, changing the output to +4 has worked a treat. Roaring without the FM volume knob dimed.

Printing it out and posting it on the refrigerator

Random thoughts having been able to actually play some guitar today.
  • FAS Lead 2 is a great model
  • The pitch block is amazeballs
    • @2112 library for the pitch block is epic. The Dual Detune and Dual Delay/Detune’s are really great.
    • I hit a cord and was like “This is instant Leon” :ROFLMAO: It’s really awesome for you to share those. I would not have gotten to building those sorts of tones for months. That stuff is seriously a major contribution to the platform. 🤜
I did hit the dreaded CPU limit once using one of the pitch block settings. I may need to craft a few presets that are relatively barebones for some of the more cpu intensive blocks, and then just have one master preset for the core tones.
