You know how the HX Stomp has less processor than the Helix flagship?

Ok. Maybe I should move toward Fractal then? Maybe an FM3? Or just stick with my old ampless rig.
I think you have to try it to be sure. I know people who love X-Crunch better than anything they've ever heard from Line6 (among others). I know people who can't find a single amp sound they like in the GT-1000 line. Nobody can tell you what you're going to like, sadly.

I personally love X-Crunch and the other X-amps, and I don't have to do much of anything to them. But that and three bucks will get you a large coffee at Dunkin'.

Also, the X amps are the best on the platform. IMO, if you deviate into the “recto”, “SLO”, etc. it’s not nearly as good.

Why do all the YouTube videos that compare the HX Stomp to the GT1000Core show the Core sounding better? What am i missing? Are they purposely manipulating the results?

I don't think the Core sounds better, especially with stock cabs. The stock cabs on the Boss units really lend towards a mid forward, boxy, nasally tone.

Here's a video where the Boss amp modeling goes into the UAD Ox Stomp and IMO sounds really good:

Honestly I've been thinking of trying out that Ox Stomp to see how it compares to other cabs. It generally sounds quite nice.

Anyways, with some tinkering and the right IR's the Boss can sound pretty good, but it's got a more limited sweet spot of good sounds. The HX can sometimes sound better with different settings more like an actual amp in some cases. Even if the modeling tech is older and maybe not as high fidelity as newer stuff.

I will say the IR-2 which I think uses the same tech can sound quite good depending on the amp model. Sometimes there's more of a midrange cut which is pleasing, less saggy and mushy compared to some amp models in other units. Other times it can sound and feel like running into a distortion pedal through an EQ pedal and into the board. Very harsh direct and "digital". Generally the cleaner amps up through crunch and the X amps IMO are pretty good. I don't like most of the other high gain amps though. You also have to watch out for the cab that's paired up with the amp model too...sometimes that can wreck the sound.

A lot too has been made of the very low latency. This became a big deal a few years ago when Leo Gibson started testing latency of all units. It is quite impressive, and maybe for some people that makes a difference. I don't know if I could tell much of a difference when I had it.

One thing that is obvious to me is that the Boss generally sounds a bit bright when running signal through it, it could be the converters being so high fidelity but it seems there's a bit of EQ lift. Other units like Line 6 may be slightly dark.

Ok ok ok ok. I have to take a rape shower after this… but..
There’s a dude at TOP that just can’t engage in any thread without commenting on how marvelous and perfect the GT-Core is in every way no matter the subject is while at the same time point out that there certainly is room for improvement, without saying what that would be…. And so on.
And ironically his avatar is that Dawson image. So naturally… in our typical fashion… we make fun of it.

To be fair though, he generally has a decent enough attitude and hasn't really ever come across as a dick about it that I have seen. He's just a really, really enthusiastic GT-1000 owner, and you can't fault a fella for liking what he has.

I've looked at the Core many times as it's a handy unit and I love Boss effects, but every time I go to YT and check out videos on it I just go: "ew, I don't want that." :bonk

But the video you posted is the first time I'm hearing it sounding good, so apparently the OX does wonders for it :)

I have a GT-1000 (the original) that I first bought to supplement the effects in the Kemper and use as a controller for both units (this was before Kemper updated their effects and released their own foot controller). Once Kemper got caught up with the effects and FC, the BOSS was shifted over to serving duty as an effects only 4CM unit, and I was really happy with it in that configuration.

Sure, he’s mostly alright. But he does have a “method”, a sneaky way of making people mad at him and then getting a mod involved to punish the ones that got mad. Simple as that. And he’s done that many times.

Of course, we all do that!

I can see how somebody looking to start some shit would engage him, but most people just know how he is and exactly what he's going to bring to the table, so they just let him do his thing while they continue their discussion around him.

Those are the amp models that I’m interested in. I don’t really care if an amp doesn’t sound like something everyone is used to as long as it sounds good.
