Someone tell Canada to put their cell phones in the microwave oven.

Wow! I can literally see them out my window to the North. That has never happened before, and I have seen
them about a Dozen times in the past couple of decades.

Apparently this is the most significant Solar Storm in 20 years. 2004 is phoning home!
Yeah it's big. I've been watching for the last several weeks. The clusters of sun spots in this solar cycle are insane.

All amateur HF radio voice bands are dead as of around 1 PM Central Time today.

Some Digital modes still work but man the numbers are way off the charts on this storm. I can't believe there aren't more interruptions in local FM radio signals. Smaller storms have caused blackouts of their signals from time -to-time. Maybe it'll build a little more tomorrow.

Remember, once a flare fires it's about 8 minutes to Earth, it just depends on how direct of a hit and where it hits that creates more regional outages. So far it's been deflecting South.

I'll head out a bit later and see if I can see anything down this way. I remember barely seeing some back in 03-04 timeframe. Nothing like in Alaska.

The FM Stations I listen to were all static today. I kind of had an inkling of what was up.

If you catch a news report tomorrow of a new flare, turn on the radio or so it will likely black out the reception for a little bit - just dead air.

Our best chance is actually tomorrow or Sunday. We'll see.
