What are you listening to right now ?

Once in a while the Mrs. and I play the board game “Ticket to Ride - Rails and Sails” and I pop in a world music CD as background music. Tonight I picked Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a disc from the three CD set from his 1980s concerts live in Paris. It’s more or less Sufi devotional music, but I like it for the vocal rhythms and the tabla drumming.

Testament needs less blasting imo. Only listened once but Hoglan and this guy are a bit too much imo. I greatly prefer Bostaph, Tempesta and Lombardo grooves over them trying to compete with commercial black metal.
I think the occasional blastbeat enriches Testament's sound. Lombardo did it on The Gathering too. However, I agree with you that Hoglan didn't fit the band 100%; somehow his style is too light-footed and delicate. Donovan hits harder, and I definitely hear more Lombardo influences in his playing.

Difference with Lombardo was he wasn't playing over cut and paste riff fests like these last round of Testament albums have felt like. Kid's a great drummer, don't get me wrong. And I only heard it that one time     I just think Eric Peterson is too busy sometimes thinking he has to keep up with the 2025 Metal Jones's instead of sticking to Testament's strengths.

Agreed. This sounds like a song Eric felt was too strong for his other band, so he used it in Testament, despite it doesn't quite fit with the classic era of Testament that people like the most.

This album comes out swingin' and just gets better from there

How did this much kickassery completely disappear a few years later?

Oh my lord these first singles have been KILLER! Only thing I will say I've noticed is if there was EVER an album to listen UP LOUD; this would be it. Through phone speakers; it's a wall of washed out guitars. My old man ears cannot make out anything on the guitar end of things. It needs cranked up through a proper audio system or some speakers with some balls :satan

I'm going to grab this on vinyl. Gave the album a full listen through this morning and might be their best album since Diamond Eyes for me. It's probably their most diverse mix of tunes in terms of vibe.

I really peaked out with White Pony. As old as that makes me sound. I know there has been great stuff since then but as far as knowing songs go; this new one has really caught my ear \m/
