What are you listening to right now ?

...and my all time favourite band has released another song from their upcoming album. I like it best out of the three singles released so far.
You can keep your Vais, Satrianis, Hendrixes, I choose Greg Mackintosh every day. My goodness, I love this band.

 


Once a week I've been practicing with a bassist and a vocalist. We run through songs together, for no particular reason, for a couple hours, mostly jazz tunes and a few crossover standards. Tonight, the vocalist suggested "This Masquerade." I only knew it from the George Benson version, but the bassist played the original Leon Russell record, and it was actually the first time I heard that version. It's a fun tune to play, a nice jam in Fm with a great blues inflected melody. The Benson version is slick and smoothed around the edges, but I prefer Russell's more rough around the edges take.
 
Black Sabbath - Tyr. I'm a fan of 3 of the 5 singers/eras of Black Sabbath (Osbourne, Dio, Martin), and I think the first three Martin era records are pretty stellar. Cross Purposees and Forbidden are good as well, but not on the same level for the most part. That said, all of it is better than Born Again, which is just hideous (cover and music) and comes off more as a joke/piss take than anything else.
