Wazzup?? I'll Open Up With Something Controversial: What Guitarist Don't You "Get"?

To be fair I didn’t give him much of a chance. I bought Pornograffitti and he totally lost me with the intro to He Man Woman Hater…

I still think it’s the most ridiculous, self serving, unnecessary thing I’ve ever heard in a song. It had nothing to do with the song. He just decided he wanted to find a place he could squeeze in a clip of himself practicing to a metronome so he could show how fast he could play straight 16th notes.

It sounds like he’s playing warmup exercises on their album.

Maybe that unfairly tainted my view of him, but ever since I heard that and the little solo at the end of More Than Words I’ve seen him as someone more interested in showing off than serving the song…

I’m also a complete hypocrite because I love Yngwie and he does the exact same thing :rofl
Dear God man. Please tell me you've listened to DramaGods and Nuno's other projects? Shirley you know Extreme is just scratching the surface of Nuno's awesome awesomeness?

I’m not gonna lie. The only thing I know about Nuno other than that album is that he had a Washburn sig model.

And don’t call me Shirley

I was a big fan of Nuno’s solo album in the mid-90’s. It was definitely a bit derivative of the times, but WAAF played the sh*t out of a few of the songs and I dug ‘em quite a bit.

This totally reminds me of Weezer now-

^Jesus Christ that first song is WEEZER AF o_O I'm betting it strays from the path when the solo part hits :bag

Edited for it kinda really didn't stray after all.

Hahaha yeah, he was doubling down. I remember my dad saying “Is this guy ever going to write a f*cking song I’ll like?” :rofl

I'll probably get crucified for this but I also don't understand the mysticism of George Lynch.

Every time I see a video of him playing it's just so sloppy and uninspired and now that he is older it sounds like he is going deaf as well since it's evident in his note choices.

Maybe I just haven't heard enough but I know I don't want to listen to Lynch Mob ever again hahaha

*******Also, I know I suck and these comments are probably borne out of jealousy

I don't like Lynch Mob. At all :bag Tooth and Nail and Under Lock and Key are all I need as far as Lynch goes.

You’re not alone.

I first learned of Lynch on the Hear N Aid Making Of We’re Stars video I found in my uncle’s stuff. I knew of him, but this was in ‘95 or ‘96, so he wasn’t exactly on the radio. In all of the guys soloing in that vid, Lynch didn’t do much for me, but I found his playing unique with the crazy back and forth vibrato thing he was thing. 28 years later, I can’t remember a single Lynch lick or melody I’ve heard since. I didn’t even pay attention for a while and then in the last 5 years started watching clips of him live and I feel like I get him less now than I did 28 years ago. I don’t dig the tones I hear him using and I never hear him play anything remotely interesting.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, I’ll start by saying that when I heard ”Wicked Sensation” in high school, it, combined with No More Tears from Ozzy, made me want to do artificial/pinched harmonics SO BAD. Once I learned how, my band mates wanted to club me like a baby seal, because I wouldn’t stop doing them. All the time.

However, beyond that singular song, I have zero interest in Lynch. Dokken is lame (IMHO), and anything outside of that is even more lame. But to each their own. Plenty of people think I’m nuts for my Nuno hero worship.

I've only recently gotten into Dokken and Lynch and am definitely a new fan.
I like that Lynch is basically the Jeff Beck of hard rock - he'll stretch for a bit and try something that doesn't always work out, but I like that he went there and tried it anyway. I guess that could be labelled as sloppy playing or whatever, but I find it kind of endearing? :D

On the other hand, those songs are still interesting with another guitarist at the helm. The live DVD from '99 with Reb Beach and Dokken is fucking killer, and is fun to watch because Reb is just having a great time.

I'd still rather listen to George than one of the generic hyper shredder types.
He seems like a decent dude, but Andy James for example bores me to tears.

right there with you, Andy James IS boring¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Randall RGs in the house!! :)

I saw where Pilson and Lynch both wished that album could get remixed---even if neither were
ultimately happy with the use of Randalls during the recording.

My first big boy amp was an RG100 half stack.
