Video Games

I started a second playthrough to do the early game again and see if I can improve with the diagonal pogo.
I just got to the point where you pogo off of those red fruit things and at first it destroyed me lol, now it’s kinda fun but I am sitting in one spot just practicing over, and over

Define “early on”, because I feel like I’ve been playing this fucking game for 40 years or thereabouts and it’s scarcely thrown me a bone. I just got a silk spool upgrade that’s made the game precisely 0.0000% more manageable.

Really, it’s a splendid game apart from the fact that it’s not any fun at all.
Like the first few hours lol. Can't imagine trying the fruity pogos without it

I can't be the only one who thought the upgrade would double the spool :rofl I was so disappointed

I need to find this upgrade, I’ve gotten decent at the directional pogo but it’s literally harder that bosses lmao

It’s so characteristic of this game. You get a second half of an item, and instead of seeing a completed item, your inventory shows zero halves of that item. And instead of being twice as powerful, you’re almost not more powerful at all.

Yay.

Didn't play Silksong at all over the weekend and just picked it up again today over lunch. Made great progress, explored a ton of new areas in Act 2. I'm at least moderately decent at handling these enemies in this section. And finally opened up fast travel back to the old areas so now I don't feel so lost and isolated.

I finally beat
Widow. The first phase was pretty easy and I could beat her every time, but the second phase was impossible. I resorted to googling and found a good tip on reddit. I also used my new poison thing, which made it a lot easier to deal damage

Back to enjoying the game until the next time I get stuck on a boss :rofl

It's so funny because almost every boss seems impossible until right when you figure things out and beat them. And I bet if you had to do it again you'd beat in under three tries. That's the weird thing with these games, you end up training on specifically that skill and then you're on to the next one.

I think the big thing I had to figure out with Widow is that she would fake sprint across the screen and I would jump too early and then she'd sprint right into me and kill me. Once I realized she would sprint backwards first then forwards I finally got past phase 2.

Happy to report I'm now in a decent groove in Act 2, once I opened up the map and explored and got some benches things are much easier now. Probably one of the biggest stretches of low stress exploration I've had since the start of the game.

Finally beat the fucking Hornet. The reward...Fungus world and having to pogo (is that the move?)

This game is both fantastic and awful at the same time.
You don’t have to pogo as much as people make it out to be tbh. There are areas you can pogo but a later ability will make travel across those areas a lot easier

I gave up trying to get past Hunter’s March (I thought that was the next logical area), just beat Lace and that was pretty easy imo. The platforming in Hunter’s March destroyed me and those ant warriors are no fuckin joke.

Platforming will get easier at some point for one of a couple reasons.

I'm exploring Act 2 and the map is MASSIVE. I just keep opening more and more areas. I feel like the map in Silksong is several times larger than Hollow Knight. It's much more open than Act 1 as well.

The tinier ant warrior that throws blades isn't too bad. Now the bigger ones with the skull helmet......
