The Mister is sweet for sure


I have an entire 4TB mech drive running Retroarch with everything from Atari 2600 up to PS2 (including obscure MIJ PC's like MSX/Sharp)

I mainly use the NES, SNES, and N64 cores, but I also wanted something solid for the Amiga core, as I was a die hard Amiga user back in the early 90’s. I’ve been having blast playing the arcade cores.

I haven’t been impressed with any of the case options, so I’m putting it all into a Mini ITX case. So far it’s been a fun little project. It’s not a cheap platform, but it’s a drastic improvement over my previous Raspberry Pi setup.

Unfortunately, the N64 and PS1 cores are where this particular processor tops out. Luckily, I’m not really into anything past that era for the exception of the Nintendo Switch.

If you're playing N64 ROMS it's pretty much required you get one of these IME; otherwise button mapping is a fuckin nightmare




Well idk why my link is automatically converting to a broken media link, but it's for the USB n64-style controller on Amazon. They feel practically identical to the OEM N64 controller

Immediately went back to playing PoE2 instead

New league drops in like 9 days so I'll probably be sucked in to it again for a while

I played (most of?) the demo, and I just couldn't get into it. Combat felt sluggish, and level design is such that, once the difficulty ramps up, I was tempted to just run past everything. I don't know, maybe it's a sleeper that presents poorly in the beginning (like Lies of P)? But definitely play the demo before spending your money.

Dragon Age: Veilguard is available on PS+ this month. I was surprised to see an actual AAA game I hadn't already purchased there LOL. It's a nicer-looking game than Avowed overall, and the writing and acting are FAR better. But so far it feels like an extremely linear action game, with light RPG elements (skill trees) tacked on. I'm guessing it'll be another "okay" game when all's said and done. Jury's still out.

(I think the last time I really tried to get into one, it was on a Sony handheld - which can't have helped LOL.) They're primarily about gearing up, taking down bosses, and repeat, correct? So if you're primarily into the exploration aspect of a soulslike, for instance, I assume MH isn't going to scratch that itch?

I'll have to check out the reviews... and maybe revisit the game.

But I just remembered it had immediately touched on a pet peeve of mine: "Let's make a game that is very obviously identical to 10,000 other games, and then arbitrarily change the controller mapping for something super-reflexive, like 'dodge'. No option to remap. ROTFLMAO!"

I do generally enjoy Monster Hunter but the gameplay loop does get old to me pretty quick for some reason. I may have burned myself out on this one quicker because it was actually a bit TOO easy; idk. Surely the challenge ramps up in the endgame portion but haven't been back to it to verify yet

I was just poking around reading reviews (I always start with the lowest-scoring ones, because I'm a crank too LOL) and I noticed that Atomfall is already out. And it's a day one Game Pass release.

So now I'm 2/3 of the way through Avowed (and halfway bored), slightly invested in the new Dragon Age, and almost certain to download Atomfall tonight. And I'm "not really playing video games lately" LOL.

After 200 hrs, I finally finished Kingdom Come Deliverance II and thought it was fantastic. The forests and landscapes are incredibly realistic. I was surprised at how much hilarious stuff is in the game, especially some of the excuses you can give when getting caught for a crime. It's the only really long game that I didn't get burnt out on and immediately wanted to start a second playthrough. It's also extremely well optimized on PC.

I never played the first one (and imagine it's a bit dated now.) Is anything lost if you jump into KCD2 cold?

I'm a big fan of the first game, but the second game has improved on almost everything. Normally I would say to play it, but honestly the 2nd one is so much better. You do miss out on some context of what's going on and some connection to some of the returning characters, but they do a good job of recapping everything with some flashbacks etc...They said that they designed it so that you can jump right in. You can also just watch some sort of story recap as well. The first game has some things that are a bit clunky/janky. A lot of people found the combat frustrating, especially in group fights, and that was improved on a lot in the sequel and I like it much better. Not everyone likes the save system, but they made it more frequent/easier in the sequel. Hopefully that helps.
