They're totally different and really shouldn't be compared imo. Both are great. Fwiw, I really liked the solo stuff Dave came out with afterwards, even the "Gigolo" and "California Girls" covers.It's hard to overstate how huge an album 5150 was coming on the heels of Roth leaving and no-one knowing
what was going to become of the band.
Hager could really sing (n spite of his habit of always pushing his upper range), was a talented songwriter, and, although he was clearly having a blast, never came across as buffoonish and over the top like Diamond Dave had become by then.
But it's hard not to love the Hagar VH too. I was only 12 in '86 so those songs were cool to me.
