The Official TGF Mesa Rectifier Appreciation Thread.

Tremoverb was awesome. Sold it to Kyle Bull. I didn’t really like the Roadster.

I also didn’t really like the 3-channel.

I love this one (that I just put in here to be contrary). 😆

I’ve been a long-time recto user, and of all the ones I’ve owned or played, none of them hit quite like the Road King II. I didn’t realize it when I bought it, but mine is a modified RK2 with a Mercury Magnetics PT in it. Rips paint off walls at any volume level.

It was a total shock to me it performed this well at talking volume levels:

And here it is in a full mix using a Torpedo Captor and some Ownhammer IRs:

It is my favorite amplifier.

I have owned so many Rectos. Couple Singles, a Rev F Dual, a Tremoverb, a couple other 2-channel Rev G Duals, a Rectoverb, a couple of 3-channels, a Roadster. I'm probably missing one or two.

Tremoverb was definitely my favorite, just sold it a few months ago. The Tverb hits like a fucking tsunami. Big, deep, inexorable. Playing lead on orange high gain or Blues was basically like cheating at guitar. Problem was if you play it as much as I did it breaks down a *lot*, as any 30-year-old amp will. Roadster was second just on insane versatility, tied with the Single which like people have mentioned is kind of a different amp. You've gotta put the Single through a 4x12 to really hang but if you do it's the best OSDM or hardcore amp ever. EL34s in it'll cut your head off, I actually found it too aggressive. Liked EL34s in the Roadster though.

Didn't like the Rectoverb. Had the wider gain sweep of the Tverb but without the massive power section, and didn't have the gnarly cut the Single does.

I didn't think the Rev F was anything special compared to the Tverb or Rev Gs, it cut a *little* better but you could just throw an EQ pedal in front, boost the upper mids a tiny bit and drop output volume a few db and you just saved yourself a few grand.

3-channels need a boost to chug hard unless you play real loud, but they're the perfect 'rhythm guitar' amp because the spectrum's so wide. you can carve so much out of that sound for the vocal or a lead and still have a ton of guitar in the mix.

hm.. theyve been around forever and ive never met one! and ive played mesas since the early 90s

i know tons of folks outside heavy music have used them- so i suspect theyre probably great for tons of stuff- do they dial in markedly different than marks?

Yeah, they have nothing in common with Mark’s circuit wise or sonically. Think more along the lines of a modified SLO-100 with more channels, more modes and a bigger more open and loose sound.

Everything @MirrorProfiles said.

The non metal guys are usually most at home on the vintage gain channel (orange) as a starting place. The modern/red channel is basically the orange channel with no negative feedback and a ton more presence. I consider the Recto the anti-mark amp in that it’s bigger, looser, and generally more rude than any Mark I’ve played. The two amps compliment each other wonderfully.

basically sounds like how i run a mark- i.e. presence all the way up and treble and mids up, but probably not in a 'modern gain' sorta way... that said, i could probably never be accused of using 'modern gain type' amps with calibers and marks.

At some point sit down with a rectifier amp if you cross paths with one. It’s hard to describe the difference but you’ll immediately hear and feel it.

If a Mark II is like the sports car (fast, tight, responsive), the Recto is more of a monster truck. It’s a big, maybe clumsy, blunt thing but damn does it greate some big fat tones with a nice balance of rudeness and refinement.

Word salad.

I have never owned a rectifier. I'm interested in getting a 50w Single Rectifier - how would y'all describe that vs the dual rec?

it plays like a pissed off lunch box, light af too, only solid state power, cleans sound like every mid 90s alternative radio hit

Very fun amp for aggressive styles as it has a lot of cut and stay tight. Needs a 4x12 to really do its thing with a full band. Quite different than the classic Recto sound - a lot of people boost or mod their Duals to get it sounding like a Single. Less forgiving as well. Need to remember that Rectos don't dial in like other amps, the knobs go past 11-2.

Honestly I'm just pissed at myself for waiting so long to get one. I feel like I've finally got the rig I should have had 20 years ago.

What is your favorite boost and cab and speakers?

I'm digging my keeley ts9dx but wanna try a sd1. The 4FB I got with the head sounds amazing but damn that thing is gnarly to load up and down stairs lolololol so I've been taking my orange w t75s to shows and it sounds great too.
