The Hx 3.9 fw thread

Would love to see the Rectifier and Mark series amps modelled more in depth, they’re classic amps but we only really have a limited experience of the amps - others have a much more 1:1 experience with the real thing

That would be very cool. The Mark amps seem to have been done more justice but the Rectifier still isn't quite there in most modelling solutions.

Just need to redo the limited implementation of the Mark IV and Dual Rectifier. Remodel all switches with their latest methodology just like they did with the Bogner Ecstasy.
I agree with you, but it’s not like that’s a small feat with the IV having more pull knobs and switches than NASA Mission Control. L6 made such a weird choice picking the IV over one of the simpler Mark versions like the IIC+ or even III.

The recto is just…off. In part because they picked the worst series in the 2000s 3 channels, but there’s something wrong with the amp they used or their model, particularly as you bring down the drive the top end sounds and feels starved of dynamics. I’ve seen chatter pointing towards the amp lacking a bright cap, which would make sense with the behavior I’m getting.

Am I a bad person if I like and gig with the helix recto? I would love the rest of the channels and switches though.

I wish there was just a bump on the overall amp modeling. Some seem happy with it, I'm really just not one of them. I've seen it getting mentioned that they don't like the idea it will mess up old user presets, but Fractal has shown this to be basically a non issue.

It's not like someone would have the great idea of risking updating their HX Stomp hours before a gig and re-do most their presets just to include a new amp.

Maybe just add cloning? If they added a nam player (long shot, I know) it would be :banana

My dream scenario would be Helix with amps on par with UA and a hardware unit almost exactly like the Floor, but no expression pedal. Maybe a firmware update could make it produce little robots that could fix that? :idea:wat

I wouldn’t say it’s a non-issue to make updates that change presets. I was a longtime fractal user, and I freakin hated that about the fractal updates. Years on helix and I found that one of their strong points and it definitely impacted why I was so happy with Helix.

Now I’m mainly using the FM9, and I’m back to dealing with updates that change presets. I don’t like it. It doesn’t stop me from using, even loving it, but it’s better the helix way.

I don’t think this stops helix team from adding an updated model with all the features though. They can add the new one with all the bells and whistles to the list and just give it a new name. They have done stuff like that before.

I don’t think they will though, hard to get support for adding features to an already modeled amp instead of adding a net new amp.

I said "basically a non issue". Of course it is, but as far as the vast majority of the users goes, it doesn't really look like a problem - or they would've charged long ago.

I don't think the issue I'm referring to is just about making a new model, it's something every the models have in common. There's something in the way they respond dynamic wise I just think it's off. Especially when overdriven.

Rectifier is great...Mark IV could use some work (or maybe just more switches / knobs)

How do you know what the "vast majority" of users think about any product?

I'll admit it's an assumption, but I think it's reasonable in this specific instance.

As a former owner of an Axe-fx Standard and an FM3 I've been following them since they were a fringe brand. I just checked and I've been a member of their forum since 2010 (ouch).

I've never seen any major complaints about an announcement that went "this next update will change the core sound of the unit!" because it was always received as intended, a significant upgrade. If anything such news was always taken with excitement by the community.

Also we can't forget that they themselves single handedly set the standard that top tier units must have regular software upgrades through out the life spam of the product. It's something that people expect from Fractal - and they pretty much forced everyone into it.

Again, sure, an assumption. But how many things can we be sure 100%? :rollsafe...

Fractal sells a lot less units to beginners, older people, first time modeler users, instructors, and probably just the general guitar playing humans than Line 6, Boss, and probably even some of the Amazon specials. Fractal stuff is the balls, but they make serious tools that you can’t just walk into GC and plug into a bunch of shit. But also don’t see why L6 couldn’t just add another level to the amp modeling like they did the FX with the Legacy section. Call them Advanced models or something and put them in a different spot so you don’t wreck presets, but still have “fixed” models if somebody wants them.
