The "Going To An Audition" Thread

I know seasonal adjustments are going to happen 2x per year. It helps keep my skills honed
and my guitar's dialed in and setup well. :chef
Since getting my first Majesty in March 2019, this is the first winter I've had any issues. Both of them have only needed slight tuning adjustments, and sometimes not even that when I pick them up. But the JP15 I got last year needed about a half-turn on the TR a few weeks back, and it developed some fret sprout.

But it's been super-cold this winter, so I did get a humidifier, and the Enchanted Forest just came back out of the case last night, so we'll see how it does. Though the temps have gotten back to "normal." KOW

And just so I'm clear, 'fret sprout' is basically the neck width shrinking slightly, right? Iow, it isn't frets raising up at their ends, correct? On my JP, I can feel their ends protruding ever so slightly past the edge of the board, but that's it. And it doesn't bother me or my playing.

I told you not get me started on truss rods. Weather is just up and down like a roller coaster this year. At least many of mine have the wheels.

Yes, fret sprout is due to the moisture leaving the wood, causing it to shrink. If you file them down you should be all set. I've done a couple.

Had a blast last night. So. Much. Fun. Our original drummer has been coming
more and more consistently. No struggle. Just flow. We just get each other. :chef

I broke out a couple System of a Down songs, that it looks like we'll be working
up going forward. :banana

I was crabby yesterday, and thought of bailing. My energy was just off all day.
I powered through, though, and realized once again what a profound healing
mechanism music and friendship truly are. Blasted that crap out of me with volume. :headbang

Welp, we have been plugging along every Thursday. Our Original Drummer
is back in the fold, and it is fun having that old chemistry and familiar feel
back. He pushes the beat, and I like that energy and vibe for playing live. :chef

Downsouth Dave bolted on us, so we are rebooting on Bass and our Singer
decided there was enough fucking around so he bought a Bass and has
been working on his chops. :idk He has a REALLY good ear from singing, so he
catches on fast. But it is a bit of a slog. He'll be ok, and so we will. Had to cancel
our upcoming gigs, but once he is up to speed we'll be more solid and stable.

Short-term it is all a bit disappointing. Long-term, we'll have a more stable
and solid core to the band.

That's what I am telling myself. :rofl

Awesome! I assume you prefer playing guitar to drums...?

I like/love both. Sometimes one more than the other. In this band, though, I definitely
prefer having a really fun and energetic drummer, so I can play guitar. He's also a great
friend, so that really helps. It's so much fun layering/stacking different parts to play in a 2
guitar band. :chef

Love noodling and playing cool parts underneath chords and riffs. Building dynamics,
volume swells, ebbs and flows. So much more creative and versatile than I used to be.
I think.

We had a stellar turnout last night. Some old friends came back into town for Graduations
and to see Family. And we got a gig to do a Wedding in August. Biker Wedding. :rawk

Kind of weird how I mentioned us having to cancel, and then we had a couple come to
check us out, and they asked us to do their Reception/Party after their Wedding.

It's like Life abhors a Vacuum! :beer

So we wrangled our original Drummer back into the fold, and/or he wrangled himself back in,
and then he has proceeded to bail on us 3 weeks in a row. :hmm

We even moved practice to Wednesday from Thursday to accommodate the 4th of July this week.
Our assumption being that would be more feasible for everyone in the band.

Nope! He has to prepare for incoming family visiting this weekend.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is why we parted ways to begin with. His chronic inconsistency at showing up, his bailing
with a new excuse every week. Dude, we all have lives. We all have children and family. We all
have other shit going on. Hello!??

His shit is just more special, I guess. :idk

We'll soldier on, but damn... just another reminder that at this point in life people seldom, if
ever, really change their ways. People are their ways.

Up and down and round and round we go. Had a group chat with our Drummer last night,
and we've all agreed that if we can't do Thursdays going forward and something comes up,
that we'll find a way to reschedule. Couple of gigs coming up, so we have to all be invested
in this.

Last night turned out great after our group convo! I have decided to pretty much Floyd and
feedback like a madman. Mostly at the same time. A lot of Wah in the mix, too, with the
divebombs, trills, harmonic feedback, and squirrel chatter.

Fuck restraint and taste! :rawk:annoying:headbang

"Fool me once, shame on you."

You know the rest.

Welp, last night was a new experience for us at practice. :stirthepot

(Warning: Looooong read!!) :knit

Our original drummer has been back in the band for a few months now, fully locked and loaded.
It's been awesome.
:rimshot

We got through the Holidays, and last night was our second full practice since taking
a break for Christmas. Everyone seems stoked, and is playing well. It;s fun as hell! We are

even working up a few oddball tunes, and pushing the boundaries of what we do. Never
thought we'd be working on some Toto.
:rawk

Practice was over. Drummer had left. The rest of us are hanging out and packing up around 9PM.
Our singer is on my side of the room, in a chair, and we are having a conversation about food.
Grilling and smoking meats. I hear a thud. Loud! Turn around. He is on the ground all seized up and
unconscious. The property owner/friend/other guitarist goes over and starts to try to talk to him.
Nothing! He's gone. After about 15 seconds he comes to. Fucking hell, he is conscious again!

We get him on his back, and he lays on the ground of the garage floor. He has good color in his
face and I check his extremities for warmth and blood flow. All good. He starts to talk and thinks
he should have eaten something and maybe he is just tired and hypoglycemic. We finally get him
on his feet and back into the chair he was sitting in. Thank goodness!

What a relief! We all kind of start up with some jokes and humour to defuse the situation. BOOM!

He falls and goes unconscious again. No shit! This time foaming at the mouth and making weird

gurgling sounds. WTF!!! Full panic sets in!

He doesn't come back as fast this time and we are REALLY freaking out now. We get him on his side,
so he doesn't choke on any fluid in his mouth, or anything that came up from his stomach. He finally comes
to. Then the property owner/other guitarist in the band goes down. He's freaking out! Two of my best friends
and fellow bandmates are on the floor in our practice space unconscious! What the hell is going on!

Property owner's wife calls 911 immediately. Is this freaking Zombie Apocalypse finally happening? WTH!!??

Things are REALLY anxious now. The wife is on 911 and they are asking her questions. They tell us to open
all doors and windows and get some ventilation in there.

In the meantime I call the singer's wife. She's on the way! Along with EMS, and the Fire Department!

911 thinks it may be a gas leak. :brick

Luckily one of our non-musician friends was there with his wife, and he helped me get the singer and other
guitarist on their feet. We put the singer into his truck. It was raining cats and dogs and was like 35F! outside.
Get the other guitarist into his home. Wife is keeping an eye on him inside. She comes back outside and
tells us that 911 said to make sure and keep the singer awake and not to let him go to sleep!

Roads are shit and covered in ice. We are very remote and it takes EMS and the Fire Dept 35 to 40 minutes to
get there. 911 tells us all not to inhabit the garage anymore.

Getting soaked in the rain while we wait. Fire Trucks and 2 Ambulances show, along with the Police and a couple
of Volunteer Firefighters who showed up in their personal vehicles.

Singer is the worst off, and he gets put in the Ambulance. They leave for the Hospital. Other EMS goes inside the
house and checks on the other guitarist. They rest of us seem fine. No headaches. No nausea. No loss of consciousness.

Then the singer's wife shows up freaking the fuck out. Since we had a lot of snow, and the ground is frozen, the
rain that is falling turns to ice when it hits the road. It's brutal. I end up following the wife out and to the Hospital to
make sure she gets there.

My friend told me the Firefighters checked out the garage. Earlier he and I shut off the gas to an heater that was being used,
and they think that may have been the culprit. Either CO poisoning, or a natural gas leak, or a bit of both.

Texted with the singer today and they had him Oxygen at the Hospital last night for 4 hours. And he had elevated CO
levels in his blood.

Fucking hell, we could have all gotten really fucked up last night. What if all of us passed out at the same time and
no one was conscious to help the others?

Yeah, I am still freaked the F out! We've jammed in an heated space (wood, fuel oil, propane, natural gas) and never
had any issues before. Just goes to show you don't know when they will happen, and that shit can kill you before
you even know what is going on.

So grateful it wasn't worse. So grateful. :hugitout

Oh, and have CO detectors installed in all of your living/work spaces if you use ANY kind of heat!!!! :chef
