OK all, here we go! Season 8 is ready to roll!! So roll 'em if you got 'em ;~)) If you don't got 'em, make some! If you are unclear what this is, or how things go for this challenge, here is the executive summary (click here for more details).

1. Make some new music (click here for more details).
2. Post it in the thread of the week of the challenge that you make/complete it (this is week 1 so anything you make this week would get submitted to this thread - no submits after Saturday Jan 18 at 11:59 pm HT). Starting Sunday Jan 19, there will be a new thread for next week.
3. You will need to post is somewhere and link to it. Many here like Audius, Soundcloud and Youtube, but there are other options.
4. Put one of 4 tags in your post: #original-song, #cover-song, #hot-noodle, #collab (please put the tag in your submit post as written here, including the # sign - I use these tags to search for and count/double check entry numbers for the different categories).
5. For the #collab stuff, that is you and one or more other members making something together, extra point available towards total score (more details in Season 8 intro thread).
6. At the end of each week, we tally where things are at for each category and overall.
7. We then start a new thread for the next week and that is where you post your songs for that following week.
8. At the end of the 8 weeks, we declare a winner and runner up for each category, and one overall winner and runner up.

We are here to have fun and stay motivated/active, so don't take any of this too seriously. This challenge exists to try and get you to make and share music, not deliver the world's greatest masterpiece. By participating, you are already a winner!!!

Full 8 week schedule is as follows:
Season 8 (2025)
Week 1 - Jan 12 - Jan 18
Week 2 -Jan 19 - Jan25
Week 3 -Jan 26 - Feb 1
Week 4 -Feb 2 - Feb 8
Week 5 -Feb 9 - Feb 15
Week 6 -Feb 16 - Feb 22
Week 7 -Feb 23 - Mar 1
Week 8 -Mar 2 - Mar 8

If you have any questions or need assistance on anything, feel free to hit me up here in the thread and/or send me a private message. I am happy to help in any way I can! As mentioned above, additional details can be found in the Season 8 introduction thread!

So as the shoe manufacturer says "Just Do It"! Looking forward to all the great new sounds that will be created in this new season! Happy New Year to all and let's MAKE SOME NOISE! At the very least, you will walk away with some new music you have created AND a banner underneath your avatar showing that you are officially a TGF Recording Artist (and if you submit enough - The Champion)!!!

This is my first year around here - do the winners of this competition win based off of number of music uploads, or by some community vote? My dumbass is confused.
Hey Mikael;

So the way the "Do Something Challenge" works is, there are 4 categories (see introduction thread). This Season lasts 8 weeks. Each week, we tally who is in the lead for each category and overall. The "overall" is whoever has the most submits all together from all categories. This has nothing to do with community votes, it is strictly the number of pieces submitted. At the end of the 8 weeks, we declare a "Champion" and runner up for overall submissions as well as a winner and runner up in each of the 4 categories. One new category this season is the #collab category. That category is such that you submit a piece along with another member of the forum. For such submissions, each of the members of that collaboration receive a point in the collab category, plus an additional point is divided up between the collab participants. For more details, read the Season 8 introductory post!

Let me know if you have any other questions or need any assistance in getting up to speed!

#original-song

After hearing the above work, mine comes up short, but I had a nice time creating it.

EDIT: I cleaned up the mix. After hearing the other pieces, I decided the track didn't need a synth that was doubling the strings, it was just making everything muddy. So I 86'd it and am happier.
