Struggling to Nail Early EVH Tones with EVH 5150 Iconic Series Amp

Also with the smaller one may want to upgrade speaker to a GreenBack 10 inch version. Not expensive and easy upgrade.

But here where you could do a lot with what your after especially earlier sounds with that amp and an EQ. I think Eddie used an MXR 6 Band for early stuff so I would suggest less gain and using that to dial in.

The New ones are a song and for what they do are great and you can do so much with a little and small foot print. New ones are also less noisy than vintage ones and come with a footswitch.

Also as someone else said your not going to sound like EVH exactly as much as you want to try.....

As Buddy Guy said once you have to make it your own and he's one of the best and his advice on learning a song.

This was not a thread about making it your own.
You can copy Ed but almost any humbucker and a Marshall is all the gear you need. The rest is nailing the nuances. When I met Ed we both played through a bunch of plexis with Ed’s guitar and he sounded like him and I sounded like me. It’s an important lesson. I can get closer to Ed’s tone by holding my pick with my middle finger that changing the humbucker.

First video in post #2 of this thread blew my mind with all of the Eddie nuances he nailed.
