Rumor mill: John Mayer plugin coming soon?

Is it gauche and bougie if I say, I couldn't give a single solitary fuck about this, and my very posting in this thread is just the height of pointlessness and wankery?

Some of the worst UI design I've seen as well. Utterly awful compared to their other plugins. Looks cheap and tacky.

Fwiw, while I have absolutely no need for this thing, the Antelope Filter sounds just gorgeous. Don't know of any filter that smooth on guitar signals in software land.
I want that in a hardware unit - what's the original Mayer used for the intro on "I Don't Trust Myself", anyone knows?

Curious how this compares against the UA Paradise…

I think overall UA is more realistic, but this plugin does a great job at delivering what it promises.

What really bugs me is that playing the Neural stuff overall isn't as satisfying as the UA stuff, seems to have a limited dynamic range. UA responds better IMO.

As far as I know it was the Adrenallin pedal. Not sure which version. This pedal has a lot of weird sounds, he has actually used quite a few different sounds from it over the years.

On the plugin though someone pointed out that on the Rich Beato interview the NDSP guy said they had modeled a Qtron, so maybe that's what it is based on.

Yes and yes, but it sounds like you already know that :giggle: .

I think their hands were tied here. They had to stick with a plain retro look to match the vibe of the tones, so they couldn't do anything like the more interesting graphical designs they've done on others.

As much as I dislike the limitations of the UA stuff, it did sound good, and is a far better value.

Yeah, this guy here is coming kinda close, he's using a Micro Q-Tron and says it works better for him than the bigger version:

But given the parameter set in the plugin, I think it's more likely that it's the Q-Tron Plus - the sound in the video isn't as smooth as what I've heard from the plugin, either (too much resonance and too quacky release).
Damn huge pedal - I needed that with a smaller form factor.

You know this more interesting graphic designs to me are what’s gaudy. Like the Henson or Gojira

I don’t get the dislike for the Mayer plug-in visuals, looks fine. NDSP have def done worse with Rabea and some others

The best amp visuals are the ones that just look like the amp. Mesa/Soldano/Nameless etc all look killer, clean and they back it up with sick tones.

People complain about Mayer but it’s refreshing that it isn’t A: yet another prog metal thing and B: not some random YouTube artist

I think some of y’all let NDSP get under your skin a little bit

Does anyone else think the presets have way more gain than expected?

I'm a long time Mayer tone chaser but I'm also a noob when it comes to NDSP plugins. I prefer hardware units for guitar tones.
I got the trial and was excited to hear the tones. I play a chord and was immediately shocked at how "bad" it sounded. It was way too much gain and the low end was overwhelming.

I tried the preset "ultra-clean" and even that was way too much gain. There was nothing clean about it for me.

It's making me think I'm doing something wrong. Is my interface too hot or am I just playing way too hard? That katana boost model is always on in the Mayer presets and turning it off helps clean things up a little. Also backing off the guitar volume helps. But it still seems way too hot.

I have a real life Two Rock and a Keeley katana. I never get that much break up when using them together at gigging volumes.
Maybe Mayer's tone isn't as clean as I thought? Any suggestions?

Gotta be your input level.

I'm using a Scarlett 2i2. I have channel 1 set to "instrument" and the gain a little less than halfway. The gain meter is mostly in the green and tickles the yellow if I really slam on a chord. I'll try lowering it later.

I also tried it using my Fractal Fm9 as an interface. It was mostly the same issue.

Turn the gain all the way down on the Scarlett. (That needs to be set at a minimum)
