Is the legendary Peavey 6505+ tube amp still the king of high-gain amps?
Wow, I didn't think there was a difference between the 6505 and the 6505+.I like the 6505 more tbh. You can boost it and it gets tight but the + just doesn't feel like your playing it or like it doesn't respond right for my tastes but I get it can be some people's cup of tea bc they are great amps.
That being said I have a 6505, ultra plus 120, and a 50w 6l6 5153 and I've been using the evh live soooo I guess there's my vote hahaha
I don’t get it.It's an amp, not a first person shooter.

Have you watched the until the end? From 04:25 I compare the red channel with the green channel boosted with the Fortin Hexdrive. :-)If you boost the crunch channel with a tube screamer it's pure metal heaven. The lead channel is fine but I never loved it, feel the same way about the non plus version.

I've got the EVH 5150III ivory edition too, such a monster amp too!I was never a big fan of the 6505+/5150 II, it just didn't have the wall of sound the 5150/6505 has and I don't like the mids on it, but I know some people love them. If I'm going for that sound, I'd rather just have an EVH, personally. They all sound great in recordings, though!
Right on!I think the 6505+ has a marginally better clean channel but who buys this amp for the cleans? The 6505/5150 is still king to me.
What's not to get, it's a completely nonsensical question for an amp, to put it extremely politely.I don’t get it.
I felt the same way. Absolutely loved the 6505. It seemed like this wild untamed beast. Like standing next to a totally aftermarket built out muscle car when they fire it up and you can feel the roar in your whole body. The 6505+ was like someone firing up a factory tuned muscle car. It still had a roar but just not as powerful and wild.I like the 6505 more tbh. You can boost it and it gets tight but the + just doesn't feel like your playing it or like it doesn't respond right for my tastes but I get it can be some people's cup of tea bc they are great amps.
The 50w 6L6 is killer. As is the 50w stealth. The only 100w I've tried is the 6L6 and I thought it was good but not great like the others. That being said I have a 6505, ultra plus 120, and a 50w 6l6 5153 and I've been using the evh live soooo I guess there's my vote hahaha
I’m glad mate! With all that said I liked the tones and playing in the first post of this thread.![]()
