You play one; you know
Carcass and Machine Head, both produced by Colin RichardsonThink some producer figured out how brutal it was when boosted? I feel like I heard Machine Head used a 5150 for their first album in 1994.
Ah yeah. And Carcass was 1993 so those are likely the first records using the 5150 for metal. Being those were released so quickly after the amp, it's probably safe to say that even though the amp was designed for rock by an absolute rock guitar legend, it became a go-to for metal pretty much immediately.Carcass and Machine Head, both produced by Colin Richardson
Are you boosting the Green Channel? I like how that combo still retains the thickness of the sound. Just curious how others are using the amp.Yes, I use this amp often, no new feelings, I turn it on and kick the SD-1/808 and it has THAT high gain sound.
Id just go with whatever is cheaper. I highly doubt you'll notice a difference between the 5150/6505 or 5150 II/6505+I'm in the deciding if I need to search an OG 5150 in as good condition as can be found or just move to current 6506 1992 since it is fresh with new components and no headache searching for the right amp service and all extra efforts if something go wrong with it.
Even used 6505 1992 can be found for a good price
I wonder how those EVH amps became the go to for High Gain, I mean EVH was loud but was not exactly skull crushing high gain player
Sounds like something that someone that can’t have a 5150 would say.Id just go with whatever is cheaper. I highly doubt you'll notice a difference between the 5150/6505 or 5150 II/6505+

I had a friend who had a 5150ii: he would always crank the presence, but basically had typical classic rock settings otherwise.I wonder how those EVH amps became the go to for High Gain, I mean EVH was loud but was not exactly skull crushing high gain player
