When my youngest son was about two years old, I was living in Colorado Springs and we used to go to the Air Force Academy to watch the Thunderbirds do their practice for graduation.
This time we were sitting near the B-52 on base, when an F16 about 500 feet off the deck came screaming in from about 2k out.
My youngest son noticed it coming right at him, ahead of its own sound. Eyes wide
Instinctively he just hit the deck. The plane flew right over with a big whoosh.
My house was a waypoint for the .mil football game overflights at the academy. (I saw my first B2 bomber live this way as well as, saw a B1 bone bomber haul ass up the canyon one day.)
I once had to get up to the top of a wall for just a few minutes to do something (Idr what.) Ladder wasn't long enough, but we had a tractor with a front loader bucket. I put the ladder in the bucket, jumped in, held it away from the wall while one of my guys raised the bucket, climbed up the ladder and did what I had to do.
The ladder literally could not slip due to the way its feet were situated in the bucket, but someone took a video anyway, claiming, "I'm gonna win the $10,000 (remember that show?) when you fall!!"
