I haven't had a chance to play through it yet, but I will report back sometime after 9 AM. I try to limit my "at volume" sessions between 9 AM and 9 PM.
Finally had an opportunity to play through the Halcyon Green and I really like it much more than a "standard" tube screamer circuit.
With the "adaptive" switch in position I and II, the impact of the the tone knob setting and the characteristic mid-hump is reduced as the guitar volume is rolled down. This definitely prevents the sound from thinning out as with a traditional TS pedal.
The real winner with Halcyon Green is the "dry blend" knob. At noon the dry signal matches a run-of-the-mill TS, but having the ability to reduce or increase the dry signal mix is a blessing for tweaking your sound and gain staging stacked boosts and ODs.
For me, it's a keeper, but I didn't have a TS other than the Helix / HX Stomp 808 model. If you already own a TS style pedal that you enjoy, the HG is mostly redundant, but the adaptive tone, dry blend, and tank-like build quality make it a worthwhile upgrade, especially when you can get a good price on a slightly used pedal.
Before reading your experience with the Halycon,
- there’s that MOD switch, THAT setting RULES!
I’d buy it just for that one setting/sound.
Now I’m going to read your review of it.
Cheers!
