NMD: Axe-Fx III MK II Turbo (J.F)

My wife drinks decaf soy latte for various reasons similar to above, going espresso drink-only route because they are lower in acidity. When I am tasked with a coffee run for both of us my order is “I’ll have my large Americano and Brenda* will have her Why Bother”. The barista knows exactly what’s up.

*name not actually Brenda

I made some changes last February and my caffeine intake was one of them. The only part of the caffeine intake that stuck was that I quit drinking coffee after 6pm and that was just so I could ensure I get a good night of sleep. Around that same time I got covid for the 2nd time and had no coffee in the house, I went a week without it and that first cup kicked my ass. First time I felt jittery from caffeine since Jolt Cola was a thing.

I’ve dropped my overall intake down, but some days I’m slamming 5-6 cups before noon. Cheerios tend to bring some grogginess the following day and sometimes I eat a lot of Cheerios at night. :rofl

I should look into GERD more, some days just drinking a glass of water can give me heartburn. I can generally trace that down to eating garbage food if it’s a few days in a row I’m feeling it. I LOVE spicy food, but spicy food doesn’t really give me much heartburn/acid reflux, greasy food sure as fuck does, though.

I love energy drinks for the taste and used to use pre workout as well. I could easily slam an energy drink or 2 a day.

I maybe do 1 energy drink every 2 weeks but have switched to tea for an every day thing. Have since stopped taking pre workout as well. But I get so tired at about 4pm every day 😬

We've gone further in our house. On school nights, no coffee allowed after 2pm.

In adults, caffeine's half-life is between 3 and 7 hours. So averages around 5. But that's just the half-life, so obviously effects on the body are going to take considerably longer to clear; hence our much earlier cut-off time.

I adore coffee, but this has really helped.

With GERD, it took me years to realize what I have. I'm perpetually on the edge of broke, so I don't go to the doctor. But anyway I was choking on just regular food, like my esophagus was too small. I'd try to gulp down stuff that was stuck, and sometimes just spew. So my wife researched this and found out that's something that happens when you've had GERD long enough to make your esophagus swell from all the damage. Now I choke rarely, and it's usually if I've done something like allow myself something carbonated. The biggest and worst thing for my GERD is by far any kind of tomato sauce. Just forget about it. No real pizza, no pasta with red sauce, none of that goodness, not for a few years anyway.

Prilosec or similar proton pump inhibitor - daily. 1 per 24hrs

I occasionally get GERD as a response to Postnasal Drip following a cold / flu / covid etc. Horrible when you're constantly trying to swallow the whole time, especially when trying to get off to sleep.

Ugh. Mucus 🤢

Close! It's the Alton Brown hack to add a pinch of salt during the Pour Over process--which
is how I make coffee everyday. It helps. My digestion/reflux issues are gone completely, and
I don't notice an alteration in taste or potency. :idk
I'm normally down with some Alton Brown, but as a chemist, I'm not seeing any way that salt is going to help this situation at all.

Dang! That sounds serious enough to NOT fuck around with. Chronic inflammation like that is so not good. :(

Huh? I simply tried it, and it has worked. Probably done it for a year now. I am sure limiting
my intake in the evenings has helped, too.

But all I know is my Poops are more solid than in quite some time, and no more acid reflux. :idk

I won't refute personal experience -- you experience what you experience. If your goal was to decrease acid reflux and solid up the poops then all is good. In terms of decreasing stomach acidity though...I would be mind-blown if that has changed at all.
