DIdnt notice that on the first listen but holy moly haha... we need the youtube cavemen to try it out for realHow are they recording these that the top end just sounds dead in these videos. Same thing was happening in the official 2C+ videos.
It's that fucking Royer 121. One of the worst microphones for high-gain guitar, and people keep insisting on using it!!How are they recording these that the top end just sounds dead in these videos. Same thing was happening in the official 2C+ videos.
Interesting that they “improved” the clean channel given that the rev F barely had a clean at all.
I love a R-121 but yes, you have to supplement it with something to get any top end energy. It's that fucking Royer 121. One of the worst microphones for high-gain guitar, and people keep insisting on using it!!
So did that one fall off a truck in Petaluma or what?I got mine early. Have had for a week. Super happy with it! Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Depends on the person. I’ve always loved the old 2 channels (had Tremoverb, Rev F Dual and Rev G Triple) and didn’t click as much with the MW. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. I never said I was smart.
All I can say is that it’s a freaking monster - if Rectos are your thing. I’m running the Traditional 4x12.

This is why I prefer the sE VR1 ribbon to the R-121. It sounds perfect on its own, and when you blend in a 57 you can use way less and get a really biting and balanced tone. Plus it’s $800ish cheaper as well and IMO is just as good for recording guitar.I love a R-121 but yes, you have to supplement it with something to get any top end energy.

I'm a 421+57 kinda guy in all honesty.I love a R-121 but yes, you have to supplement it with something to get any top end energy.
The revision F rectifiers were always series loops. @LCW did they stay with series there? This is why I prefer the sE VR1 ribbon to the R-121. So about this amp, the updated clean channel might have sold me on it. I’m debating getting one new at list or waiting a year for a used discount, but we’ll see. As a huge rectifier nut I’ve been considering a new recto soon, but knowing this was coming I wanted to see more about the clean channel and loop before pulling the trigger. I’ll have to check the manual, I can’t tell from the video if it’s a series or parallel loop, and if it’s parallel the first thing I’m doing is modding it to series like I did with my old 3 channel triple.

Just happened to find a dealer that had one early and they shipped it to me. I didn’t ask questions but I also didn’t broadcast it.So did that one fall off a truck in Petaluma or what?
Yes this one is series.
