New Friedman IR-X preamp

I did, but honestly, I don't think I gave the Revolt enough time before I returned it, (I never even tried it with an IR, just my analog cab sim), and this thing sounds much better right out of the gate.

Having said that, I still like most of my tone to come from a guitar speaker, and I have the perfect solution for that right now. As nice as this would be, on a pedalboard with my Stomp XL, as a flyrig, I just kind of did a fly gig with the Stomp and GM running silent, that is small enough, ya know?

I don't think this would be any better than what I'm doing now, it's just shiny and new, that's all. And of course, smaller and lighter

The only real downside I'm seeing with this pedal is it's too big for a nano sized board, so you need something a little bigger.

Looking at the power requirements, it wants 800ma so I could likely power it with a pedalboard power supply.

Side note: I can definitely see the market for this, the Revolt, and all other pedals of it's ilk. The only difference between running a modeler into a wedge or IEMs, (PLENTY of folks do that nowadays), and this thing, is that the IRX is bringing tubes back into the mix, which I'm all for. Besides that, it's the same idea, and as I said, there are plenty of other options already on the market that don't do it as well as this thing does, so, he's pushing that forward.

Also, If you want true Freidman tube tone, but "can't"/don't want to use a traditional head and cab, or get into a Synergy system, and want to go direct, well, this is it.

My birthday is coming up, this is going on my wishlist. Running this into the FX return of my RK50 and I’ll essentially have a BE50! They really nailed the feature set on this.

Yeah that exactly.

I've tried a bunch of different pedals to try and get at the Friedman sound and haven't really been successful. BE-OD has the general sound but has WAY too much gain. BE-OD Deluxe didn't lower the gain enough either. Smallbox pedal has lower gain but doesn't have the same EQ or feel either. I actually thought the 5150 Overdrive did a better job, but again that only does the high gain thing.

As for power amp simulation without the IR...not sure if that would really be useful? I guess maybe if you're going to run into a solid state clean amp and guitar cab? I'm not sure how much power amp modeling is really happening either, if it's just the presence and thump controls it's likely just going to be EQ I think.

Let’s be completely honest here. It’s a Synergy BE in a pedal with some cool bells and whistles. It eliminates the ridiculous $500 module dock and allows you to load your own IRs and have a poweramp sim onboard. It’s fantastic. The only issue I see is that I 100% hate hidden features, and the presence / resonance controls should be on the unit itself, not just the PC GUI. But otherwise this is the direction they need to go with all the Synergy module IMO.

But otherwise this is the direction they need to go with all the Synergy module IMO.

I like the idea of it. I didn't like the Freidman module I had at all so I would rather they do it with the SLO or the IIC+ or the Uber

Agreed 100%. Those that you mentioned are my favorites as well. A dual EQ slo module with an on board boost like the Uber would be the ideal module IMO.

If you just want one or maybe two AIAB pedals, this looks like a very cool product for someone who wishes they had a BE100 and/or wanted a direct solution. If they were to do a whole line like the all the modules, etc, at $500 a pop, it'd get expensive quick if you wanted more than one, though. Eventually the difference would pay for the dock, etc, although the direct solution and form factor here is probably ideal for some.

One thing that'll be interesting to see is if they do any kind of tweaks and/or integration into the Syn stuff if it is a hit...Like it'd be cool if they took the digital power amp emulation and 'tuned it' to the preamps in the Syn line (Dave implies that the power amp emulation == BE100).

Then I could stick a Syn1 in this thing's loop and get a direct emulation with a tuend 'Diezel' power amp emulation for the Herbert module and then have another preset that uses the internal one with the BE preamp, etc.

I guess as someone who already has a lot of Synergy gear, I would like something that expands/integrates with that ecosystem. Maybe they will generalize this as a direct back end for the Syn stuff.

It does seem different though. The BE-DLX module has two identical channels, where this has a lower gain and a higher gain channel. Also, the boost isn't something on the Synergy module.
