New Friedman IR-X preamp

Sounds like it has potential to be a cool unit. Clips aren’t doing a lot for me with the caveat I don’t put a lot of faith in clips. Judging without playing one… the IRs on their own, his cab that has no tolex sounds pretty dang good but the others sound pretty anemic in the body of the sound but could be useful in some mixes. This with the UA cab pedal could be a really nice combo.

I want a Friedman BE-100 but I don't need 100 watts (or even 20 watts), and I don't want to spend $4,000 (or even $1,500) on an amp just to run it into a load box or attenuator to bring it down to half a watt.
My thoughts exactly. This is what made me pull the trigger!

The software, not the pedal.
Yeah I noticed on the software as well - it wouldn't surprise me if there is a updated syn1/2 which has the same capability of Poweramp emulation etc.

I think this Friedman pedal is a well thought out product - I could pay a little bit more for a syn1 and preamp and then feed into my Fractal for Poweramp goodness

So basically they took a Friedman Synergy module, a Class-D power amp, USB/Midi I/O board, IR loader, and threw it into a box with three footswitches? And it’s only $500?

Given what the Synergy modules cost on their own, this is a bargain. And from what I’ve heard from Leon’s video, it sounds great!

We’ll likely see other flavors. A 5150 model would be killer!

There is no power amp. Wouldn't be room for that in that box.

Power amp emulation on the output was my understanding. I did not see a video where it drives a cabinet.

Hooked up and on my desk, running into the input of my Axe FX 3.

First impressions: it's the real deal and way better than the drive pedals.

Tonally it sounds really good out of the box on the first IR with no fuss. It's got a nice midrange cut and clarity, not too bright or dark, impressive. The gain range on the first channel goes from very clean to near AC/DC levels of gain. Second channel goes from near AC/DC up to moderately saturated modern gain. Boost can take it way over the top. There's a really nice feel to the gain channel, there's a solid low end, and there's a really nice clarity. It's a lot clearer sounding and way wider range of gain and tone than the BE-OD Deluxe pedal and Smallbox.

There is a slight audio dropout when switching channels or engaging the boost, for those who are curious. Build is all metal and feels solid like their pedals. Included AC adaptor has a bunch of plugs for I'm assuming different countries.

Layout is a bit funky, it's weird that there's boost volume on the front and gain on the sides. I would have expected the other way around. Also the boost volume is on the left next to the channel indicator light, and the channel gain is on the right next to the boost indicator light. Feels like they planned to do that the other way around. The channel one and two gains are flipped around on the side too, which is odd. None of this impacts usage though.

It's actually quite impressive they built this unit, shipped it out to stores, and had almost no leaks until the announcement. Product was announced last night and I picked it up locally this morning. Crazy!

That's awesome!
I have to say I suspect it's rather good as the Andertons video sounded great from the first second and those guys haven't the greatest history with anything remotely gainy.
