NDSP Quad Cortex

Man people get a QC and proceed to just not want to say anything bad about it 🤣

I know we are a little harsh but it's also interesting watching people buy the QC and a switch flips where they make it seem like we are bonkers for our arguments.

I'm glad people are happy with their purchase though!
I'm not saying it's perfect by any means. (PSU is a joke, lack of flexibility in assigning foot switches to whatever you want, limited effects, etc).

I'm on my fourth one lol and who know how long it will stay. But the bashing just gets old. But I get it, that's what this forum is all about. The memes are fun I won't lie. But eventually, the haterade just overwhelms the actual discussions.

I will say this: I've obviously been through a lot of gear the last 6 or 7 years. But I can't say much of it has been about tonal struggles or fighting. If anything, I've just kinda gotten happier and happier with tones regardless of what modeling platform I'm using at any moment. So I'd say your impulse may be right in terms of "why am I making this such a fight?!?" and trying a very different approach. Sometimes we just gotta boop our life a little :beer

I was generally pretty happy with my tone in headphones, but when my tinnitus got a lot worse I tried to use those less and less. From them I didn’t like using studio monitors as much.

I think it's also just an overall lack of users. There aren't many on here. Honestly even at the other place there aren't that many. Seems to mostly be in the discord for better or worse

Per your comment they're sort of in a lose-lose situation. If they don't keep the plug-in pipeline fresh, I bet people will complain. But in doing so, and ignoring the QC development, they piss off the other contingent. They're trying to be too many things IMO. Plug-in "leaders" (which I think is where they started??), floor/desk modeler (QC)... but then also competing with the capture side (Kemper, Tone X, etc.)
Qc was a novel idea and if line6 or fractal had released it it would be pretty amazing by now.

I hate that Discord stuff. It's just one gigantic stream of non-sense. I guess the millenials and gen-z or whatever love it.

Fourth! Impressive! :D

Tried a Helix Floor and wanted to love it, but:

a), it's fucking gigantic, not desktop friendly. Gigging I could see it's appeal. But I'm just some loser hobbyist.
b) with the simplest of presets (no ellaborate or complex reverbs or delays even, just one basic reverb, a couple of ODs in front, 1 amp, 1 cab) it started greying out items to add to the preset. IMO, it's processing power in 2024 is a complete joke for a flagship unit.

Tried a PodGo. Helix amp stuff sounds fake as fuck to me and no amount of third-party IRs or any other tips I could find helped. Great effects, sure, but that's it. The whole enterprise was just a Sysphean waste of time.

Helix effects on QC? I guess that would be pretty cool.

I'm gonna guess you were only leveraging one of the two processors. Which would be understandable because its dumb as fuck that you have to bridge paths 1 and 2 together to use both processors.

The first time I had HX hardware; trying to explain what I was trying to do to figure out how to do it was 1000% more difficult than it should be.

Playing the devils advocate. Didn't you just start playing when you got the QC? If so; how would you know what sounds "real"?

See I didn't even know that. Not intuitive. I could have given it more time but I was put off. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

Well I would have kept the third one, but I thought it was wobbly and wouldn't lay flat. Good thing for Sweetwater returns. But turns out it's my table that's not 100% flat. Oops. :p
Not the silliest reason I've heard for deciding against a QC.

;)

Even against Quad Cortex, I hesitate to make blanket appraisals of the quality of amp modeling. Every modeling platform - even Fractal - has gems and stinkers.

To wit, the @GuitarJon recent videos comparing the Soldano model on modelers to his real Soldano, made even the "updated" Soldano on QC sound like bum piss comparatively, while the HX Stomp matched preeeeetty closely.

One of the things with Helix is everyone telling you how easy it is to use. So when you get it in hand and find something that should be dead simple but it doesn't click for you for whatever reason; it's a bit of a head scratcher.
