NDSP Quad Cortex

Not great. I can get a good clean tone but adding any drive pedal to the 2203 sounds small, dark, and muffled.

Also have the Friedman IR-X hooked up with the HX Effects and that sounds great with just about any drive. Similar type of edge of breakup tone with the cleanish channel. QC is much closer tonally than that compared to the Fractal.
Are you using dynacabs? Maybe give the new firmware a spin?

But again, you can just turn on the QC and get what you want and not have to jump through these hoops

I think the lingering heartburn stems from it being such a forward thinking device that you can still easily envision it being The One if/when/ever it reaches that initial vision.

If not for its strength and potential, I doubt anyone (non owners) would still care.

If it’s full feature except half of horsepower and footswitches, it will probably be a pretty compelling offering. I can’t think of a time any of my presets got CPU capped, and I don’t need a bazillion footswitches personally.
Totally agree
I think 5 or 6 encoders
Single path like 10 to 12 block
Maybe capture player only
If they get hold of that new Sharc chip Cliff mentioned that is basically the power of a full 2 chip Helix depending on the cooling requirements they might be able to get
A) a smaller chassis like Tonex
B) one chip less cores and less latency especially with one path

Are you keeping the master volume low? Like around 1-2, preamp gain lowish too and then using the drive pedal to add in the extra gain?

You had me until here :ROFLMAO:
I don't know . I don't honestly have a ton of Amps I want to capture and frankly there are so many good ones out there now and people that are likely way better than me at doing it like Jason Tong from Headfirst
but if you have amps you love I get the need and desire to have that

Yeah, I’m not questioning having the captures in it, just it being captures exclusively.

tried both dyna cabs and York audio impulses. Those are fine, it’s the interaction of drive pedal and amp

Good call on master volume, I’ll try that too. I have preamp gain and input gain lower then master about 5.

Yeah the higher master volume will definitely make it sound more muffled, especially above 5. As mentioned try it around 1.5/2

But I do think the drive block is the weakest link as of now in the FAS universe. Not that it's bad but it could use some work imo

As long as all of the I/O remains intact, and there’s a significant savings vs Quad Cortex, could be a winner.

ToneX sized chassis would be too small IMO. If you decrease screen size and encoder count too much, you’re likely to compromise UI/UX, which are among the major strengths of the QC.

SOON?

JK I know you can't say anything lol curious to see if it is the fabled dual cortex
It could be based on their r focus group I was part of recently but i did not get the impression that a new product was coming soon

Unless we are talking line6
That’s possible because March/April /May is pretty much their busy season

I actually can’t tell you, because I myself only have two pieces of info, three if you count my contact saying “it’s really cool”.

It’s small. It’s by Neural.

Can't wait for it to be their version of the profile player so everyone can lose their mind about them copying another piece of gear 😂
I actually hope it not just a capture player , having the current GUI and the models is part of the appeal to me
