Well, that Lone Star is fucking brilliant. Just fired it up, plugged in a Tele and it sounds glorious. It made me realise I havent used the Helix or Fractal models even once, and they sound at least as good.
It’s REALLY overlooked with plugins on how having the right UI and experience for the user can make the difference. You click one button to fire the app open, everything is pre-routed, you know where to find what you’re looking for and you don’t have to scroll through lists of things you don’t need. The controls on the amp look more familiar and feel more like the experience of just plugging into an amp and going. That’s not to say I can’t dial in great tones with generic UI’s and sliders. It just separates the experience.
Need to dive into the Matchless, first impressions were it was a bit honky until I went to the middle pickup position. Generally speaking, every Matchless emulation I’ve played has blown me away (makes me want to hunt down a real one) so hoping I can get some mileage from this.
Ultimately I doubt I’d buy this (certainly not at full asking price). I’m not huge on Shiva’s (even though this one sounds better than the older Shiva circuit), and as cool as the other amps are, I’m well covered for them. The delay is cool, but I have others that do it better. NDSP reverbs are a bit ordinary to me too, there’s better 3rd party stuff out there with plugins.
