NDSP Plugin Teaser SOON (Archetype Mateus Asato)

Again, my prediction: this will be indeed the Devin Townsend plugin, long confirmed to be in the works. Signature effect? Some dual delay/reverb variant, much like his signature Ocean Machine pedal. The guy loves crafting ambient soundscapes.

What's got me puzzled is which amps they're modeling, because Dev has been touring, and recording, Axe FX amp tones for quite some time now. He used to play a lot of 5150s and Dual Rectos back in the day though, and Neural definitely has those tones super well covered by now.

ngl, NDSP selling a plugin based on a Fractal model would be just :chef

All in all, i'm torn. I love Townsend and will try to support him on whatever he does, but man, giving money to NDSP these days feels... off.

His most recent Fractal stuff is based on a Diezel Herbert. There's a factory patch with a ton of scenes and some synth stuff, then there's a stripped down downloadable one he did for Fractal l's gift of tone series last year.

I’d be doing it for the team, so to speak. I know that Neural DSP will be getting their cut, but so will Devin. That man goes out of his way to please his fans; above and beyond many other artists IMO.

+100. Not only that, Dev has an incredible taste for tone. Saw him live recently, and he (and the band!) sounded immense - some of the finest live guitar sound i got to enjoy in years.

We shall see. It's not like NDSP stuff doesn't sound good either, i just don't like how the company does business.

No idea. Never used them. I loathe Neural DSP, but will insta-buy if it’s anything Devy-related, which has apparently been in the works for some time.

Bro, I keep considering it, then every time I drop into the largest FB QC group, the top post is always something like "Hey guys, I get a blank screen when I boot up 1 out of every 3 times. Anyone else?" or "We were playing a show when the power tripped, and when it came back on, I couldn't get any output so I played the rest of the show clean straight to the board"....

The complaints with the latest firmware update alone are, uh ...not great.

Order now and it comes with a hardshell case 😀

Nothing so far in the NDSP plugins that are based off a Rectifier or even get close really. That would be a cool amp to cross off but I’d prefer an official version with some different circuit revisions and all the channels and switches etc. Archetypes typically only feature one channel per amp.

I’d be down for a DT Archetype but I also kind of hope it’s something else.

Those Archetype plugins are mostly damp squibs to me. I have the Nolly one and there are some cool tones in it. But it is far from my main amp plugin due to the fixed architecture and lack of flexibility and features.

Their best plugins IMO are the Darkglass and Parallax bass plugins. Those are pretty essential.

I've got the SLO plugin and it is cool, but Helix and Fractal SLO's are just as good.
I've got the Fortin Cali Suite, and it just aint for me.
I've also got the Fortin NTS and Nameless plugins. NTS is a bit meh. Nameless is great.

I'm not hugely interested in a Devin Townsend plugin.

Um, i thought some of the hi-gain Archetype amps were dual rectos?

5150s are super well covered in this line, though. The rhythm amp in Nolly is definitely based on his block-letter 5150, and i'm pretty sure the same goes for Plini, Gojira and Abasi.

Nope, no Rectifiers.

Archetype Abasi is sort of unique, not sure what’s going on with that one. Sounds odd to me too.

Archetype Henson=Matchess+JCM800

Archetype Nolly=Shiva, 2203, 5150 Red channel, Victory

Archetype Gojira=Fender Twin, EVH 5153 Blue, EVH 5153 Red

Plini=Fender Twin, Friedman BE, Friedman HBE

Rabbea=Victory (haven’t used this one though, can’t remember if there’s a clean fender amp too)

Petrucci=all Mark series stuff

Wong=SSL, dumble, fender (I think, can’t remember off hand).

Recto should 100% be an amp they tackle properly. There’s some good 5150’s, but tbh the green channel of the original circuit would be welcome, as would the entire 5150II amp.

There’s also quite a lot of variation between the EVH line, each amp that got released had some small tweaks in the circuit. I think Gojira covers the best tones, but there’s still no green channels. I don’t really want more 5150’s because EVERY plugin has them, and I believe Mercuriall is releasing one this week too.

I don’t think they’ve done the 5150 to death, I think it’s just a popular amp that a lot of modern circuits bear similarity to it. Releasing more of them at the moment is definitely “jumping the shark” territory though, I think the reaction to Mercuriall could be quite funny (if it is indeed a 5150).

I did this video a while back because an Ola video (with 500k views) suggested that one of the Gojira amps MIGHT be a Rectifier. That got repeated into the truth when it sounds nothing like a Rectifier and everything like an EVH:

Winner winner. Yawn town for me....

For real 😥

Don't get me wrong, guy is an absolute monster on guitar, but... i just don't get it 🤷‍♂️

His claim to fame is getting a shitton of Instagram views, and apparently these days that's enough to secure endorsements from the likes of NDSP and Suhr.

Not sure how it's super different than Plini?

Was going to say, yeah, most of these tones seem to be well covered by Archetype Plini already.

The gimmick for this new plugin is an analog tape delay emulation. Looking forward to reviews on that.

dang. wasn't really too aware of this guy, clearly can play GREAT. tones sound good. UI looks really good, even for NDSP.

I'm genuinely amazed that this instrumental guitar stuff is still alive and has an audience. Not my bag in the slightest but good luck to them.

EDIT: So, Vox, some boutique Fender style amp, and whataever the lead one is.

Space Echo looks cool, I never liked their generic delay much. Reverb also looks a step up although real plates>digital plates. and a spring would have made sense to go with the space echo.
