Modeller enthusiasts who can't dial in patches

Does anyone else seem to end up with tones that sound very similar?
I’ll use different amps and effects and basically end up sounding the same 🤪
Yep, all the time.....we like what we like.......
yes.gif

Not me every song i try to do has different tones
My last song "Anyway you want it", certainly isn't sounding like the current one I'm working on
Hence why I have a Fractal

:idk

Not really talking about dialing in for covers…..but when just starting from scratch for a good tone, no matter what amp, I tend to dial in something similar…..not that the Axe is not capable of different tones.

Definitely. I like having a few because they feel slightly different so I’ll go with my mood. However, lately I’m challenging myself to go outside my comfort zone.

I think there's a natural inclination towards a certain eq curve and/or distortion characteristic that's pleasing to each of our ears. It happens.
yes thats it for sure, you dial in something till you like it
So yeah if you try different things then yes you'll gravitate to what you like, hence why it will always sound similar

Yep. I really think a player's technique is the biggest factor though. We're going to sound like ourselves whether playing through a Gorilla or Marshall.

Hey thank you, man! That’s lovely of you to say. You’re a prince.
You’re right, I probably took the thread too seriously. It seemed like some people were talking down about folks who don’t have as much time or experience to dial in tones, but even if that’s the case, my response certainly wasn’t constructive or helpful to the discussion.

Oh, there's absolutely some blow hard bullshit in this thread. :rofl

Complaining about hypothetical situations and things that have zero effect on other people can be a past time for some.

I remember quite vividly I tried to create a preset on my own once from scratch when I first got my Fractal. It didn’t end well.
The process was not constructive for me and left me rather disappointed with my purchase. I realise I‘m not the target audience for this sort of high end modeller, doesn’t mean I can’t have one though 😉.

I just play guitar. I don’t know anything about the finer side of sound creation. But then I came across Fremen and his presets. Back in the day you could get 200 presets for about £30. Totally changed my experience. From basic clean to mean right up to complex synth routing presets giving me spacious wide stereo sounds. Stuff that I would never have managed on my own. I have used various “free” stuff ever since (Leon,Burg’s,axechange etc).

Now the fun bit. I love playing my Fractal and makes me smile every time I switch it on. THAT’S what matters to me. I’ve got thick skin and I really don’t give a toss what people think of my decisions. I honestly don’t give any of you a second thought when I’m playing my paid & free presets.
So you boys & girls crack on and tinker to your hearts content.
I shall continue to just pick up my guitar and play.
Thankyou very much, you’ve been a tremendous audience , SEE YOU NEXT TOUR!!!😂😀

Some time ago I bought some presets for my ASM Hydrasynth. I am a total beginner as a keyboard player and honestly didn't have the patience the learn the ins and outs of the synth atm. I just wanted some cool sounds to use for practice, so I bought some patches. They were hit and miss but I found some keepers and had fun with them. Worth the money? Eh, maybe not.

A lot of people love the idea of having a box that does every tone ever but similarly there's many who won't know what to do with it. I think you are dismissing the accumulated knowledge of how amps, fx and cabs work. We have collected that over many years but others are just on the starting line.
