Metallica thread for expressing hot takes

Yeah, they grew as a band, as they had done with the Black album. No worries, man. My feelings aren't hurt or anything. I just don't agree.
Yeah, no point in getting riled. It’s just opinions.

As far as Metallica growing as a band, maybe. Maybe like an old woman with osteoporosis. 😂

I mean they weren’t Yacht Rock or anything but they sure were just on the other side of the Dad Rock border. But not the Kiss end of Dad Rock.

With Metallica, post AJFA; the only growth they could have was in a commercial sense. MOP was pretty much their peak form. As tired of an observation as that may be by now. You aren't growing better than that if you are a metal band in that particular sub-genre.

They peaked two times in my opinion.

They did it with MOP and again with the Black Album. Like it or not is a record that set the bar so high nobody reached that level again.

I honestly enjoy the variety in Metallica catalogue even if I don't like everything they've done.

After all RTL doesn't sound like KEA
MOPis close to RTL but overall better and AJFA sounds like coming from a totally different band.

Then there's the black album a unique masterpiece.

With Load an Reload they tried to make a step to the side and stepped over some shit: too many songs not enough good ideas.

Nailed it!

I never wanted them to stop making music, though. :idk

Every climb/ascent/mountain peaks out at some point. It's natural.... and inevitable.

Great point! :beer

Creative peak and commercial peak.

Can't imagine the world without either. I do know which Album I put on
if I want to listen to Metallica.

:rollsafe

I’m not meaning to kick your sacred cows. It’s just that I felt betrayed when I first put on “Heaven and Hell”. I said, “what is this garbage? This isn’t Black Sabbath.” That’s where I formulated my name change rules.

Same thing with Metallica’s “Load”. It’s not the same band. Not even the same genre.
Oh fucking hell. Both Dio Sabbath records kick Ozzy's version of Sabbath up and down the block. Sabbath with Ozzy is cool, but I much prefer Dio, who can enunciate his words.

If some of those songs were left off, and all of those songs (or the majority of them, anyways) had Black Album/RTL arrangements, the albums would've worked better. They did not need nor require AJFA style arrangements. 8 minute long songs just to have an 8 minute song is pretty pointless. Seeing as they were doing dad rock, they should've stuck to the 3:30-5:45 minute range.

I love Load and Reload, there are some great tracks on those albums - in my opinion Metallica's only stinker was St. Anger. That was a hot mess.

My favorite will always be garage days re revisited.....not garage inc ....and not the old demo.....the Jason tryout original tape. I remember the first time I heard that.....it was Metallica but like the real one ....I love the sparse production and sound and energy.

Also, I'll fight about it. 🤬

🤣

Metal up your ass!!!🤘

St Anger is worse than the worst, cheapest dog food you can find for your pets. The song where James sounds like a rooster and goes, "Fran tick tick tick tick TOOOCCCKKKK!" is abysmal. Death Magnetic was okay, but the final product sounds bad. The production was smothered in awful clipping, and Kirk's demo solos were better. I remember thinking Hardwired was a decent stroll through memory lane in terms of some of the various Metallica eras. I listened to a song from 72 Seasons, but cannot get over the awful yellow album cover. If it was Italian horror, I could deal with it (if you know, you know), but it is not.
