Metallica thread for expressing hot takes

Zakk was Ozzy’s best guitar player.

I know this is an unpopular take, but I like all eras/iterations of Metallica.

I love the old thrash Metallica as much as anyone. But I also love proggy symphonic metal Metallica, pop metal Metallica, grunge Metallica, therapy Metallica, and reborn Metallica just as much.

As great as the old thrash stuff was I also really dig the deep southern rock groove stuff from the ‘90s!

Some people expect Hetfield to stay in one narrow lane his whole life and do nothing but old school thrash, but the guy obviously has much more diverse musical tastes and isn’t going to let anyone force him into a box. I think it’s been cool to see all of those influences through their music over the years. It’s made them a fun band to follow

100% agree

I consider their first 4+1 records their best output (and among the best rock music ever recorded) and forced to choose I'd take MOP to my desert island.

I like what Load and Reload brought to the table and the overall vibe. There are too many not so great songs in those 2 records? yes! Should they have made one record out the two? Absolutely!

St anger is the one record I really dislike. The songs are way too long and uninspiring, the production is questionable at best.

I never really bonded with Death Magnetic and that's mostly because of how it sounds, I don't like the production and it's really fatiguing. I also don't like James vocals (melodies and interpretation). Could have been a much better album with a different production, imho.

Hardwired: I really like some of the songs (hardwired, atlas, moth, spit out, halo) but also dislike some. Just like load/reload they should have left out some material.

72 Seasons is the best record they've made after Load/Reload, imho. There are few unnecessary songs, though.

a lot of the new stuff sounds like they wrote it while sitting down

love them, jealous of them.... just maybe try writing stuff that forces you to move around maybe??

It would be cool if they re-released Death Magnetic with a new mix/master. Maybe for the 20th anniversary. Can you believe that came out over 15 years ago!?!

Speaking of remasters, I pulled up MOP on Amazon music in my car and it sounded terrible. I saw it was the remastered version, so I went and found the original version and it sounded so much better!

The only thing I dislike is the inane arrangements, which I'll blame Lars for. I don't mind it on Puppets and Justice, but after that, fuck off with 99% of the long songs.

Same goes for you too, Maiden. We don't need 15 Ancient Mariners every few years. Fucking assholes.

Tickets go on sale next week for their Aussie shows, the first since 2013.

Hmm... Maybe I should listen to something they've done since then...
