Metallica thread for expressing hot takes

While I understand one would say that....with cliff dying and all....BUT....

Metallica committed suicide when they decided to hire a therapist and make a movie documenting the whole process of them finally realizing that one cannot survive in a dream world and that one needs to be nice to people to get anything done, lessons normal people learn very early in life.
Yeah, that’s a good point.

It makes sense though. Unless, of course, it’s a solo act with hired guns.
i can piece that logic together....but I won't ....

I would love to agree...I just can't. I get it...but I can't.

Case by case basis at best....but I wouldn't want someone telling me I need to change my band's name...just because someone, my friend, died in an accident.....so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not just talking about Metallica. When Aerosmith broke up they should have changed their name, then they could have reclaimed it for Done With Mirrors. But coming back to Metallica, Cliff would have NEVER let an MTV video happen. It would have been in his honor to retire the name.

Don't you need to Trademark your band/brand for merch and IP reasons?

Very few bands have the same people over the course of decades. Purple, Sabbath, Bad Seeds, Megadeth...

Yes. And they always sound different with the different lineup. Using the same name is dishonesty.

Legal and financial issues often get in the way of creativity and old friends getting the band back together. Was it dishonest for The Beatles to keep their name when they fired Pete and hired Ringo? For AC/DC to replace Bonn Scott and keep going?

Yes.

I’m not asking anyone to agree. Just stating my theory.

I post a Podcast episode with Jason, subsequently resurrecting this thread and it immediately goes to shit. Never change TGF, never change. 😂

Not to mention how positively stupid it would be for a band to give up the name recognition that they've built up, potentially for decades.

I’m not meaning to kick your sacred cows. It’s just that I felt betrayed when I first put on “Heaven and Hell”. I said, “what is this garbage? This isn’t Black Sabbath.” That’s where I formulated my name change rules.

Same thing with Metallica’s “Load”. It’s not the same band. Not even the same genre.

Yeah, they grew as a band, as they had done with the Black album. No worries, man. My feelings aren't hurt or anything. I just don't agree.
