Luminite Graviton M1 MIDI Controller

Ok official names:
  • XY: 2 x 5-way switches
  • EC: 2 x knobs (each has a push button)
  • XE: 5-way + knob (will come later)
It took a while to decide on the knobs. But here you go :)

Are the knobs some standard size that could be swapped if you want?

I have found that one of the issues with my XY is that it's hard to see which way around it is so I've put a little owl sticker over the XY text.

I think for the EC I'd want to do the same or swap the knobs to different colors since I plan to buy a couple of these.

On another note, I think the main screen with Preset library, different controllers etc configurations could use some work.

I find that digging into another page to go between Preset Library and Control Surfaces is a bit of a chore. There's no super quick way to go between these. I go regularly between the two, but rarely touch my XY controller configuration by comparison.

Maybe differentiating it to "Home" and "Devices" sections could help? "Home" would be things like preset library, control surfaces, live screen, setlists - things you operate/view from the M1/M2 unit screen. "Devices" would be configurations for all the connected hardware units, expression etc.

Control Surfaces could also use "one tap to open", "hold for other options" as the double tap functionality is unnecessary since there's nothing to activate unlike in preset library.

Yes they can be swapped with standard D-shaft knobs, can also fit set-screw (ie: tele) knobs. Or color stickers on the knobs.

Separated "Home" and "Devices" tabs is a good idea, quick and less cluttered. I'll try that.

An even quicker way to switch is the old "Shortcut" option (one tap on the title text to go to the screen of your choice and back, rather than renaming). It can be a new Settings > Shortcut page, where each screen can be set as the shortcut to any other screen.

Looks great! Hopefully a XY pad too in the works soon :D

Definitely wanna get that EC, so what are some applications it could be used for?

I'm planning to use them for some often used secondary features on my pedals. Strymon Deco low cut, Nightsky pre-delay, BluGuitar Amp 1 powersoak to name a few.

Anything where it would be nicer to use a real knob over an onscreen slider I suppose. Or as an alternative for an expression pedal.

I think I found the bug, it happens if you enable both "Invert Up / Down" and "Toggle On". Fixed in 4.0.2 !
just updated and tried again, things look good here. however after mode fiddling around, I'm not sure it was a bug, but if you found something, great! :rofl

curious about something here... I understand that the green number in the corner of the display is the reported battery level. while charging, it reports over 90%, but when unplugged from a power source, it reports what I assume is the actual charge. I just did this here, and it was 92 plugged in, and 58 when I unplugged it. then just 10 minutes later after unplugging, it's now reporting 39. the site says '6 months per charge' but I feel like mine is losing charge at an alarming rate.

there are also times where it seems to lose the connection to the Graviton itself. I've been beyond excited for this product since ordering it, but on both occasions that I've tried to use it on stage, something goes wrong. both times, everything looked great while setting up. ran soundcheck with it, all good. showtime 2 - 2.5 hours later, and some of the commands I was trying to send just wouldn't seem to be sent. I had to default back to my footswitch, which thankfully I had left plugged in. I'm not sure if this is related to the battery behavior though. any ideas on this?

if I'm to believe the numbers being reported for battery level, it seems like something isn't right with the battery.

Yes the green number is the correct battery level, measured directly by the XY and reported over to the M1.

Your XY definitely has a bad battery that cant hold charge. That explains why it stopped working 2-2.5 hours later after charged (normal XYs can hold charge for months)

I’ll send a replacement asap !

I appreciate that, I ordered off the site. could I order a second one as well? I’d like them on multiple guitars. how do you want to coordinate, do you want the unit I have returned?

Sure, you can order on the website and I’ll send both. No return needed.

When I first got it, it said 100 as well for me but died out in 2 or 3 days, but after a full recharge, it's been doing great!

@Luminite - are the XY switches like joysticks that have the full circular sweep or are they more like switches?

Do they always snap back to center or will they stay in position when you lift your hand?

Having full circular sweep motion that will stay in position would be incredibly powerful. You would effectively have a dual-axis expression pedal.

I would love to see some alternative onboard wireless controllers - maybe even just a single control on each. A small thumb wheel and/or a simple pot would be great - these would be incredibly useful to me immediately as expression pedals.

The ability to pair up to ten of these controllers is fantastic.

I just ordered an M2 with a couple XY controllers.

They are more like switches that move up/down and left/right and press on it too but they always snap back in place

Also check out (i have this too) https://elgaratge.com/product/wex-wireless-expression/

Thanks ! The XY switches are 5-way and will snap back to the center position. The upcoming EC Controllers ($30) have 2 knobs on each (see previous page for pic) and can work as virtual expression pedals

you mentioned elsewhere that they have separate clockwise and counterclockwise settings. Does this mean they have a center position? If so, do they snap back as well? Otherwise, I’m not sure why I would want different behaviors.

No they stay in position, just like normal knobs. CW and CCW are just extra actions you can assign to, other than increasing and decreasing.

Are they infinite rotaries though, or just regular pots with fixed travel from one end to another?

I

They are rotary encoders, which have infinity rotation
Great! I'm curious how you'd use the different CW/CCW directions for different functions on the knob though.

Do you think it might be possible to set it up to "wrap around" a value, e.g rotate it long enough and it goes from 0->127->0 again as long as you keep rotating the knob? Or through some min/max range you can define.

I think that might have interesting usecases for say cycling through presets on two different pedals (pedal A is CW, pedal B is CCW) or cycling through values on controls where going back and forth is not that useful (like say picking a cab sim on my Strymon Iridium - CC values 0-8).

Can you use the button on the knob to switch between say sending MIDI CC 1 vs CC 2 when you rotate it?
