Yeah, convolution is great for conveying a specific acoustic space (or as you say, things with special acoustic properties, like springs), but they tend to be less musical than algorithmic reverbs.

But I do use convolution reverbs in my mixes, so I'm not opposed to them at all.

I am disappointed, I’d prefer that they were available at launch. If that is not something you care about then bully for you!

Here we are, several months before launch, certain features are launching later, and we have many years for extra cool features ("surprises'') to be developed.

Everything you said seems to be already answered.
a) I want firm feature list on launch -- tick
b) I want surprises -- tick

The point is, you are asking for everything and more, and getting it - and yet still coming off as ''disappointed'',
which is confusing to say the least.

The reason people are jazzed about the Stadium is because it starts from the Helix platform and then expands from there. Helix, which as of two days ago was considered a world class modeler, is the baseline. Obviously they are going to create content that makes use of the Stadium hardware, hence the Augora amp engine. Clearly they will eventually create effects that have to run on the new hardware due to their resource consumption, but to arbitrarily piss and moan because it may not have an effect that requires Stadium level processing exclusively is stupid. For all we know base Helix algos could sound better just by running on the improved architecture. Who knows? What we do know is this will launch as Helix, plus what’s been revealed. (YMMV if the “plus” trips your trigger)

Just like the amps, there have been at least a couple generations of HX reverbs, so I wouldn't refer to them as a monolithic whole.

The latest generation of "Dynamic" reverbs along with the redone Spring reverb are a couple of tiers above the Double Tank/Searchlights generation for me. They compare really well against Fractal, and with their timing amidst Stadium development...... they're probably Angoura in all but name. Same for the latest delays.

I think the people who did those are also ex Lexicon / Digitech guys

I don’t get the people who always claim line 6 reverbs and delays don’t sound good enough. I really only use the dynamic reverbs. But to me they sound as good as anything I’ve tried from strymon or plugins I’ve used in the daw.

Can't promise anything, but I can imagine a scenario where new effects (and/or cabs) from a Stadium update might also appear in Helix/HX 3.90.

But I do use convolution reverbs in my mixes, so I'm not opposed to them at all.

For whatever reason, I often struggle to make convolution reverbs work in my mixes. Very occasionally I'll use the UA ones, but even the Liquidsonics stuff tends to feel congested in a way that I don't get from having some modulation in the reverb. I've recently been using some outboard Alesis verbs which are all LTI (see also PCM60, RMX16), but for whatever reason the digital crunch/gain seems to give them something IR's don't.

There's also some solid arguments about algos being essential for realistic modelling of acoustic spaces - the way that sound propagates from different instruments is quite different to a speaker generating an impulse, and a room full of people and instruments as a lot of small fluctuations in temperature and positions that IR's can't account for. I believe I read something from Bricasti about how sound behaves near surfaces not really being LTI as well, but I can't remember the specifics.

Recently I've been looking at the IR view in Plugin Doctor and looking at modulation behaviours of different reverbs. It's pretty fascinating how different algos handle early and late reflections, as well as the different approaches to modulation. Algos also allow for doing interesting things with different parts of the signal.

Fine. We’re just trying to comprehend your disappointment that future effects are in the future.

Like anyone else, I’d prefer that the best possible effects were available, when they exist. If they don’t exist at the time of launch, I don’t attribute that to deception or a bad business plan. I attribute it to the directional nature of time. Bully for me!

Let’s narrow it down to the heart of my statement, which you just quoted.

Somebody will still find a way to take issue with it. That’s how absurd this conversation has become.

So, if I understand you correctly, there are no plans for Helix 3.9 in the foreseeable future and Helix won‘t get new amp models anymore?

I don't think we'll see anymore updates until Stadium gets it's first update after launch and then we'll get the stuff from stadium that'll fit. A bit like the podgo after each helix update

Like production tier planning to Avoid underproduction (lost sales, customer frustration, scalping). or Avoid overproduction (dead inventory, sunk cost).
I assume they may be manufactured in China ?

You would rather they didn’t release effects they have designed for the stadium already in recent Helix updates? And that they held them to their chest and released with stadium day one and abandoned the Helix?
