Line 6 Helix Stadium

He just said something along the lines that in the heat of a live gig he simply wouldn't want to maneuver his feet within a centimeter accuracy range. Absolutely right.
100% this.

I think there´s no need to go so cramped if it can be avoided. I mean... the QC is ultra compact, and that can be a perfect reason why to do it that way. But the Stadium is a more "useable" size, and there´s a good separation from the external footswitches to the edge of the box. I can´t understand why they didn´t take advantage of that and went to 75 mm spacing.

I also understand it´s OK for most of the people... it´s just that, IN MY CASE, sadly it´s a deal breaker.

I hate the promo site currently up for the Stadium. It's pure bad website design.
  • It takes a long time to load and then you need to scroll to see any relevant info.
  • Nobody cares about a big X and a freakin' start button.
  • Nobody wants a wavy background that is what, meant to hypnotize you to buy a Helix Stadium?
I just wanted to see the product and read more about it.

I'll take this moment to also dump on Line6's entire website. The product pages for even the older Helix products are just bad. You have these clickable feature things that show some little pic and less than a paragraph of text. The freakin' close button for those sections is buried under the top header bar and only appears if you figure out you need to scroll down.

Whoever made these clearly never tested them, never thought about their usability or the information value of their content.

Also WTF do you have to sign in to download e.g firmware updates?
Yeah, the whole Line6 website needs a "Stadium" too. Being a frontend developer, I too was impressed at how bad it was when I joined the Helix community. Browsing it in mobile is painful most of the time.

I’m pretty sure they sold a boatload of stomps. I don’t think there would have been a Stomp XL if it wasn’t a popular product.
Indeed, Stomp is probably by far the most popular Helix currently - makes perfect sense, so much stuff in such a small package.
Line 6 won't miss out on that opportunity, there will be a "Stadium Stomp" in a couple of years for sure.

Yeah, totally. But I think the Stomp XL is better in many ways, and they made that product because they saw the regular Stomp lacking stuff.

For this new Stadium age, I wouldn't be surprised t if they made a new Stomp XL with a size between current Stomp and Stomp XL, but I'm curious about how they will manage the screen size with the new touchscreen and more complex UI.

The more SKUs, the bigger workload for the team. It would be understandable if they tried to avoid having two products so similar now that they have the experience of Stomp XL.

All the display stuff via mobile.

Makes sense, because, with the Stomp XL having two footswitches rows, how the hell can you reduce the device a lot more than this?

I think it’s a rule here so I still won’t be selling my HX Stomp. :D

As uncharacteristic as this is for me, I am actually very well intrigued. I’ll probably wait for the first firmware update.

I guess he was there mostly because his ears are trusted and he said he liked what he heard.
Sound clips is a big risk until you are 100% happy
They said in another vid they are still working and optimizing the models that was the reason they picked just 16 at first because they wanted them absolutely nailed, they were not allowing any player or YouTubers to record audio at all
The problem is w sound clips if they are not great or do not represent the sound well people are going to react same old Helix
IMO when the time comes they really need to do basic dry not over processed sound bites in a variety of styles

Country , Jazz , Classic rock
Hard rock , Metal
They should also look at getting some different players to do those like
Tim Pierce , Pete Thorn , Doug Rapport
But since no one can get the unit , and can only judge on SoundClips you don’t want to release less than stellar sounds

I dunno I never go by sound samples of a unit based on youtube so many factors that wont represent the tone you hear
it might give you a general idea but thats the extent of it
best tool is in your environment with your gear and your hands
I think all top tier models can sound really great when you tweak to your liking
IMOHO

The Hype knob is pretty much customized for each amp, and is not meant to be a magic bullet. Depending on the amp and amp settings, some people who've tried it land on 5.0-6.0, others at 2.0-3.0, some leave it off. At 10.0, it's generally overkill, except when certain amps' settings make it really subtle.

YouTube sound clips are next to useless IMHO. They almost completely hide the very real differences that you can hear and feel while playing. That goes for tube amps and digital, and pickups as well.

I don’t there are a few guys I trust like a Blake Mansfield
Zach Wish , Leon Todd
Brett Kingman all seem to wrangle out great tones
But yes I get your point

Pickups are the absolute worst like beyond awful 90% of the time it is a iPhone mic
And the guitar is so badly out of tune

But for instance show my The Agoura XTC red sound like this and my ears will perk up

Thinking about this for a day - my ideal product is probably a Stadium "Zero" with the touchscreen, full DSP horsepower, and WiFi editing features (no footswitches, but a floorboard port or something). I'm basically using the Axe FX III in this manner and almost never interact with the front panel. I know the market for this is too niche and POD bean like for them to go there.
You're right, but...it'd be spectacular.
