Line 6 Helix Stadium

Wow so the “old helix” sucks is what I get from this … that 1st snippet pretty much said this.. so who would buy the old helix new??? Poor people I guess
It’s always like this each time a next gen modeler is released. Just like when you step up from the 42 inch 1080 tv to the 77inch 8k. Things are the best until they aren’t.

in casual conversations, none of us in the building say "Floor" or even "Helix" any longer. Just "Stadium" and "Stadium XL."
This is wrong Di. I’m shocked and honestly quite dissatisfied. I mean…
if i was a intern at your hq…

I would def enforce the practice of always saluting any coworker (military style) and always begin the salute with

“Helix, dear Eric. How’s your day?”
“Helix Frank, where have you been lately?”
“Helix Ben, that amp… it has a scratchy pot… can you model that?”

Congrats btw. Awesome stuff as always!

Yeah it sucks. I was playing my helix as i watched the live stream on Wednesday and it sounded so good, until i could literally hear it start to sound like shit about 10 seconds after digital igloo walked out on stage.

Ive got less that zero problems with personal preferences re: sound / tone / feel .... its all good.

Ive got less than zero problems if people much prefer one brand over another ... its all good.

But f.f.s ... this is to my mind the single biggest modeler announcement of the last 10 years, and this is your question/comment ? Helix modeling is a Pig ?

I mean ... f*ck .... I know this is a very open and liberal forum, but that's just totally f*cking embarrassing.
“Lipstick on a pig” is an old saying for something old trying to look like something new. Another one is “ mutton dressed as lamb “ which also doesn’t imply a similarity to a sheep. That’s exactly what I meant, not that the original models were a pig. Line 6 have form for constantly rereleasing old tech in a new box so it’s a perfectly valid question.

I would buy a gen 1 Helix today if a modeler is what i needed. Theyre great. Floor or LT or Stomp doesnt really matter much, theyre great.

I don't understand why they also removed the scribble strips from the HXS, it could have been just a 0.5" taller and have the scribble strips.
Is the HXS more akin to the og LT in the new gen?

I legit had to sit down to watch the video again today and reprocess before reacting.

I have a lot of respect for the L6 folks, and as a user it feels reciprocated. I feel heard. L6 seems laser focused on solving problems for a broad range of musicians and I’m in awe of how seemingly novel some of these features are.

The new modeling is exciting and all, but IMO that’s not even the star of the show. With all the programming, MIDI, and automation features this thing is going to SUBSTANTIALLY raise the bar of what your average band can pull off for a polished live show.

There’s so much potential for new creative expression here and I have some suspicions about where things are going.

100%

As I wrote just after the streaming, the word modeler is not enough anymore.

something more than just a exp pedal difference is my guess... imho they've could have differentiated them even more (im no marketing strategist by any means... though)

Yeah, likely this.

I'd also say it's not just the size. You gotta differentiate them enough to warrant the different price tags.
Personally, even if I generally kinda like onboard EXP pedals, by now I'd also prefer a unit without one but still featuring scribble strips. Guess you can't have it all.

IMHO the main reason is pricing/marketing, therefore cost.

Feels like they didn't want to make an LT version of the flagship, at least not now, and they did it the other way around.

Looks like they are telling us that Stadium is the main product while XL is the expanded version, expanded only on the hardware side.

This would explain the "bizzarre" naming scheme.

Naming is not the strongest point in this new products line, if you ask me.

Not sure about that, scribble strips are a flagship feature imho like they were in the og Helix, that makes the the smaller HXS a cut version of the HXS XL which is the flagship in this gen.
So all in all, the new flagship still has the bullshit pedal no one even uses and is still unnecessary large.

Fruity loops Blood Overdrive.

MAAAN, don't even mention it! *Way* back in the days I snagged this from the FL demo package (they had it in there as a non-protected DLL, no GUI or anything) and it was just marvellous on filter sweeping synths and what not. To this day, I haven't found anything doing the same. And I certainly wish this was available in my guitar arsenal, too.
