Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

@brianwahl
thanks Brian. Assuming you have new the code as a beta tester, did you happen to save the free AC30 preset under that higher code version?
They show up as blank to me on 1.2.1

well, I rebooted the Stadium and I was able to import your presets this time.
Apparently it's not just me.

The bugs are starting to get to me.

is this part of the problem? (also seems to be a known issue)
No driver. Details show driver expected, hence the question mark flag

I was going to suggest power cycling Stadium and then re-importing. That seems to clear up the blank preset thing. No idea what causes it. Thx for downloading!

How good are the Helix Stadium drives into clean Agoura amp models?

Up until recently I seldom used drive blocks except for the classic tube screamer into a Marshall type boost. But while recently giving a TMP a test drive I started messing around drive blocks into clean amps and found some mid gain tones I really enjoyed that were a little different. But to my surprise I found my FM3 does drives into clean amps even better than the TMP. I didn't try this while I had a Stadium on hand, so now I'm wondering if the Stadium does drives into clean amps as well as Fractal? I tried it in Helix Native and was disappointed with the results. But maybe the Agoura amps make all the difference?

OG Helix amps have noticeably less dynamic range than Agoura, which I’ve found to make a difference if I’m doing things that push the amp - like hitting it with a boost. Agoura responds much more naturally in that regard. I’m still pretty meh with digital drive emulations for whatever reason - both fractal and L6.

I have both and I honestly like the HX drive models better for the ones that are on both platforms. 98% of my playing these days relies on clean-ish to edge of breakup amps with boosts, drives, and distortions into them. OG Helix, Stadium, or Fractal all do it well, but the Agoura amp models are definitely a step up in this area. Right on par with Fractal.

Do I remember seeing something about a bug affecting stereo levels through the XLRs? Noticed at a gig on Saturday that the left channel was several decibels lower than the right channel. I didn't have time to do anything about it at the gig. I normally hook up through the quarter-inch outs at home, so hadn't noticed it prior to the gig (I only recently started running stereo). Anyone else running into this?

Yep, that was probably me. There were times when running dual amps in a split stereo fashion where the audio would become unbalanced and quieter on one side. Reboot would fix the issue. I have only run into that once within the last several weeks. It used to occur with enough regularity that I stopped using the unit live for a bit.

Hmmm. I was not using dual amps. I'll have to do some exploring. All my XLR cables are at the practice house right now, but I'll check it out when I can and report back if I can figure out what's happening.

Don't take my observation to mean it can't happen without dual amps. That's just where I noticed it. I'm betting this can happen in other scenarios too. Open a support ticket for this, please.

That’s good to know and makes me more interested in giving Stadium another try sometime down the road. I remember a few years ago when there seemed to be a fair number of people preferring HX drives to Fractals. But with one of the recent Fractal updates I guess they improved drive/amp interaction to close that gap. Nice to know Agoura is a notable improvement over HX amps in this area, as I found them much less pleasing than Fractal in Helix Native.

It's not really the interaction for me as I feel like that's been there for some time now on both. It's how the drives themselves are modeled in the HX. Fractal drives aren't modeled as a single pedal. Sometimes different settings are modeled across multiple stomp types. Or sometimes they're omitted altogether. Line6 mostly takes the approach of modeling the whole pedal with all the switches and modes. Some of the newer Fractal drives are very nice, and I hope Line6 introduces more of those as complete pedals too.
