Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Do me a favor, just swap the output levels of the Volume and Master of the stock amp/cab block (Max Vol, 5 Master and vice versa). Tell me which one you think sounds correct. For me there is no comparison. Reducing Master and increasing volume sound "correct". Max Master sounds like shit.

Worth mentioning that Master on 10 and Drive on 5 in Helix is (roughly) equivalent to a 1-12 range Fender amp's volume being at 6.5 and a 1-10 range Fender amp's volume being at 5.5.

5 on a Tweed Bassman would be more like 3.6 to 3.7 when converted to Helix's 0-10 scale.

Wasn't able to return the unit today as I realized that I'd left the cheat sheets out of the packaging. Now it'll have to wait till next Sat.

Since I have to open it up again, I'm going to take another stab. Can someone tell - if I wish to record something - do I just connect a USB cable from the Stadium to Garage band? Is that all that it takes?

If I can capture some clips - that may help to explain what it is that I'm hearing / feeling across the different models that I don't like.

You don't have to convince us 😀 if you don't like it, you don't like it

No clue who James is ... but this has always bugged me about the OG. And I find myself having to reduce Master, increase Channel on every preset. It's like all the presets start with a digital hard clipping sound. I've read 100 different times what the Master/Channel are supposed to do, but I can't get it to work that way. Can someone explain it to me? LOL
James Freeman has risen to legendary status on here and tgp. His requests have appeared in 2 firmware updates on 2 different platforms (helix, fractal). His schlong is 12 feet long as a result.

I'm not familiar with garage band, but basically that's the gist of it--just connect it to your daw computer with a USB cable, and tell it Helix is your input device. Caveat is I haven't tried it with Stadium, but I don't think that part's different from OG.

So, I know the Song features aren't enabled yet, but is using the metronome possible? I see levels for it in the Matrix view, but without Song functionality, I'm guessing there's no way to start and stop it.

That will be a great feature for practices where the drummer doesn't show up.

I mean that's what I do .. I just never understood it. Technically at 100 it should be totally neutral. It is not. Not even close. And it isn't like tube distortion, it's like the clipping from a cheap Peavy solid state even with the actual volumes set super low. So every single preset I had to juggle. Anyhow, just one of those things that never made sense to me.
Then IMO there is something off in the modelling of the master volume and how it reacts

Touch the tap tempo button - metronome is in there :)

Sorry, full of questions tonight: How do you rename a footswitch with multiple assignments? I'm not seeing that field anywhere in the Helix Stadium app.

Ok, went back and played.

This problem does not reveal itself playing through headphones but it very clearly noticeable playing through a guitar cab. To put it simply - WHERE'S ALL THE HIGH END??

All those high end frequencies that give a Marshall it's core character are neutered. It's just all smothered out. Why is this the case?

The Helix Plexi sounds way better, to me, simply by virtue of the fact that critical high-end frequencies are present and accounted for - this in large part is what gives modeling its authenticity. Need to investigate more.

I'm still learning how to record etc. but I did this using my phone camera. It's basically my in-room sound of the Helix through 2 guitar cabs. Unfortunately, google photos compression is massive, and a lot of the tone is neutered from what I'm hearing in the room - but you can still get a sense.

The first part is Agoura Brit Plexi Jumped and the 2nd amp is Helix Brit Plexi Jumped. Amp is fully cranked - not how I typically play but that's what I happened to dial up. There's just a tiny amount of reverb - nothing else in signal chain. Hopefully you can hear what I'm hearing.

Definitely also feeling the benefits of the better dynamic range with boosts into agoura amps. I like to run the particle verb and cosmos echo into the front of dirty amps and that seems more natural now as well.

How are you powering up the cabs?
