Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

In all seriousness, once you start adding DAW features, people will ask for more DAW features. It's absolutely inevitable.
And in case you'd want to know how I know: Because I'd ask for those features myself, too. Simply because "Hey, there's a DAW inside my modeler now - so let's not stop there but make it a great DAW, FFS!"

So, I really hope that this won't happen.

Don’t forget the audio-to-MIDI conversion! ;)

Fwiw, that's something I could actually see happening in a modeler (well, no, not really, this is not Boss, quite unfortunately regarding that aspect...), simply because it'd make quite some sense. But I'd rather see MIDI-free synthesis options first (again, unfortunately it's not Boss we're talking about here).

Would also be nice to globally disable / enable all the flags - if I’m playing over a track and deciding if a new preset I’ve come up with would be a better fit, it’s not possible to do so as the flags will change to what you’ve previously asked it to do….. so a way of getting it to ignore them all whilst you tweak would be nice.
Song Settings > Bypass Flags. It doesn't bypass Time Flags, however, because the timeline needs to be there.

That's a fair point (assuming I'm understanding). Showcase is cool, and being able to load some audio tracks, play along, automate preset changes is something I'll be looking forward to. No one asked me of course, but I'm hoping Line 6 doesn't burn too many resources building a fancy DAW into Stadium. I bought in to share the ride on modeling and sound design specific to guitar tones. I understand some amount effort to improve workflow and usability for people who will employ Showcase for performance or practicing, but I'd be disappointed if goes open loop and Stadium turns into something more like a DAW with some guitar plugins rather than a modeling/effects platform. That said, I don't expect Line 6 to fall down that rabbit trail, but I'm sure we're in for years of requests that would tend to push the Stadium further towards DAW territory. It'll be a challenge for Line 6 to manage that, unless they really did want to include as much of a DAW in the box as they possibly can.

I totally get that, and I agree that modeling is what the main focus should and will be, but Showcase is already in there, it’s going to require some attention and resources from the Line 6 team (dunno if it’s a separate team or not), so I wouldn’t wanna see it not utilized by players either.

I think that being able to record layers, even if it meant simply recording the looper track, would mean much more engagement with Showcase, and it would spark more creativity.

The last thing I would wanna do is record to an IPad or Laptop, cause if it wasn’t a spontaneous thing, I’d already be working within Logic.

Again, I’m not holding my breath, but I don’t think “people will demand more” is any more relevant than people jonesing for X amp, effect or feature that also won’t necessarily ever come to the platform.

Our appetite for more features won’t ever be satisfied, but it’s not a dealbreaker either way.

It’s just one more selling point and something that would be useful to some

It'd open an incredible can of worns. Just to have a DAW that could only supply the most basic functions.
As said, connect an iPad (or even just an iPhone), open Garageband and there's your sketchpad - and it'd instantly be compatible with the full GB version or even Logic.

Yeah, I get that too. Really, no skin off my nose either way. It'll be up to Line 6 to set some boundaries. I mean, it sounds like they are planning to at least have some capacity to, for example, record a clip for use with presets as well as whatever signal capture would need to happen for Proxy; and it doesn't seem like it would be an extraordinary amount of effort to expand it into a rudimentary "scratch pad" sort of function. But that's not my area of expertise, and I'm sure there are complications I'm ignorant of.

That people will ask for more doesn't affect me directly beyond making for some tedious threads here. I think it does affect Line 6 because they do try to be responsive to their user community. It's one thing for people to want more models of Mark amps (or in my case the elusive Marshall 4140, haha) from an amp modeler, but somewhat different to want multitrack recording workstation functionality in an amp modeling device. Of course, to be fair, it was Line 6 that opened that can of worms, not "us". And they're all competent professionals and in time will do as much as they can with Showcase's evolution without letting the core mission get sidetracked. The core mission I'm assuming is still to create a first rate guitar amp modeler/effects processor. Since modelers in general seem to be evolved almost to the point of diminishing returns it makes sense to start looking for other ways to add value to new products. From my own selfish perspective I'd get more utility from growth in/expanding the sonic/tonal options, in part from continuing to expand beyond real world hardware replication and more "Line 6 Original" type stuff. Not sure if those two things, showcase evolution and sound design, really pose any sort of resource conflict with each other as things grow, but in the hypothetical case they get into either/or territory, my preference would be to err on the side of prioritizing sound design. But if it's truly a both/and then by all means, take showcase wherever users would like to see it go.
