Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

I think the HX drives are among the better modeled drives but always felt something missing...like they're there in character but missing in fidelity and depth.

But then I wonder if I'm just imagining because whenever I see these comparison videos - they sound very similar (just talking about ODs here...the rest of the pedals like uvibe etc. are modeled fine)

Totally. I got a used Precision Drive to offload on DSP when I had an HX FX. The difference is definitely there and now I have a hard time running the modeled one, even if it would be more convenient. After that I’ve gotten a compressor pedal and a ”transparent” drive as well. It will be interesting hearing what you early adopters think of the drives running on Stadium!

What do you think this place is? Haha

Agoura doesn't do anything with the FX pedals. It's just amps. Don't think we'll hear much difference.

I always thought that an OD pedal would be way easier to model than an entire amp given the simpler circuit...but no it seems.

I guess that's what Proxy is there for. But I prefer modeling that scrolling through a million snapshots so hope they do some updating of the ODs.

I was thinking of the new hardware (converters etc.) and how DI has mentioned that older stuff might sound different based on such things.

I play in a similar vein - I'm just getting into recording - can you share your recording chain?

As easy as it gets. HX Stomp analog mono out into Motu M2 (could as well have used the Stomp as an interface but it's just more comfortable with the permanently hooked up Motu) into Logic on a Macbook Air. Delay and reverb courtesy of Logic because I wanted some stereo width. And that's it.

Been waiting for a Helix Stadium non-XL footprint for years, and now that it's closer, I'm starting to consider the XL😖🤦

So far I've only used expression pedal to mute (something I hope I can do with the Stadium tuner if Line6 is kind enough to implement the alternative mode I suggested a few months ago🤞), but I've recently started to use it for controlling modulation blocks rate or delay time, and also the scribble strips could be handy in some situations... But I still struggle to decide if those two things only are worth the extra 500€ (there's nothing else I would miss in the non-XL).

Scribble strips are something I would only miss in sunlight gigs, which are quite uncommon in my case, and if I ever needed an exp pedal, I could get one for much less money (with the small inconvenience of having to carry it separately).

Aw shit... I know I'll love any of the Stadium version once I get one, but I'm getting absurdly anxious for making the choice I won't regret.

Also, the lighter weight and smaller footprint is still very important to me. Slightly more important than the exp pedal and the scribble strips, but just slightly.

Any other one here having had this hard time, so I can feel equally silly but at least not alone? 😆

I went XL because of the extra IO and the scribble strips. I will say L6 has the next decade to find interesting and novel uses for the expression pedal and I’m not putting it beyond them to have some cool functionality hiding on the roadmap somewhere.

If the Stadium had scribble strips then I 100% would have gone that direction.
