Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

Been waiting for a Helix Stadium non-XL footprint for years, and now that it's closer, I'm starting to consider the XL

So far I've only used expression pedal to mute (something I hope I can do with the Stadium tuner if Line6 is kind enough to implement the alternative mode I suggested a few months ago), but I've recently started to use it for controlling modulation blocks rate or delay time, and also the scribble strips could be handy in some situations... But I still struggle to decide if those two things only are worth the extra 500€ (there's nothing else I would miss in the non-XL).

Scribble strips are something I would only miss in sunlight gigs, which are quite uncommon in my case, and if I ever needed an exp pedal, I could get one for much less money (with the small inconvenience of having to carry it separately).

Aw shit... I know I'll love any of the Stadium version once I get one, but I'm getting absurdly anxious for making the choice I won't regret.

Also, the lighter weight and smaller footprint is still very important to me. Slightly more important than the exp pedal and the scribble strips, but just slightly.

Any other one here having had this hard time, so I can feel equally silly but at least not alone?

Consider this: With an external EXP pedal, you could comfortably put the unit on a stand and still check all your EXP assignments, while being able to enjoy on-unit editing.

I went XL because of the extra IO and the scribble strips. I will say L6 has the next decade to find interesting and novel uses for the expression pedal and I’m not putting it beyond them to have some cool functionality hiding on the roadmap somewhere.

If the Stadium had scribble strips then I 100% would have gone that direction.

I was #46 overall on the list and my rep told me straight up I was not in the first shipment. Their first shipment is literally 25 units; second shipment is ~400 units and that won’t go out until the “end of the month or early December”.

If I’m getting it in December, I might as well get it cheaper (MF coupon). So I canceled mine and ordered from MF.

Maybe all the SW cancelations help out some folks lower on the list.

Gotta say, based on that video it looks nicer "in person" than in photos online. I'm glad it actually is black and that there isn't a huge gloss sheen sheening away.

Yeah, I haven’t really loved pictures of it so far, but it looks really good there. Only thing I don’t like/understand is the choice of look and texture for the expression pedal. Maybe it’s a need-to-get-used-to-it thing.

I actually liked the skateboard tape of the OG Helix. The new one will defo take some getting used to.

I’ve always found the Helix expression pedal awkward and stiff. I was kind of hoping the new expression pedal signaled L6 was trying something else, ideally something that feels more like a traditional volume/wah pedal.

I rarely use it so it’s not a big deal for me anyway.

All you need to do is losen it with an Allen key - not too much - and it'll be fine. There's definitely a sweet spot where you can set it in place and it wont move and wont slip due to stage vibrations. But I always had good results slightly loosening it.

I dunno...looks great to me. I like the textured design pattern.

Do you recall at what time they put you in the list? I emailed my rep 2 minutes after he offered but he didn't get back to me for another hour so I imagine I won't be in the first batch either

Stadium's expression pedal is much easier to move and the toe switch is much easier to engage. Ships with an allen wrench so you can set the resistance.

Clearly this dude is pretty early on in his life journey. I don’t know…my mom passing away? My wife getting cancer? An assortment of other personal tragedies? Not getting a toy when I want it ranks very low on life’s little disappointment list.
