Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

Yes, this again (though I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve said it in regards to the Stadium). Just stating my opinion, I just don’t like this stuff on modelers. I guess it’s my IT guy brain, but signal flow is all I want. If I can just set it to that, then I guess I’ve got no complaint.
I mean, you'll miss out on the ability to quickly dial in each amp or effect. Or move the mic in relation to the cab with your finger. Or any number of other things we have planned for Focus view in the future.

It's literally a harmless static image to fill in what would otherwise be a big empty field. The purpose of the images is to incentivize users into taking a breath, slowing down, and checking each model out (perhaps trying a few different focus zones to see how the sound/behavior changes) instead of "skip model, strum, nope, skip model, strum, nope, skip model, strum, nope, skip model, strum, nope..." A list of model names one above each other does no one favors, although those sensitive to rendered gear images can even switch the Model List to list view. ;)

Can you add an option for it to be plain, like your older product? Or even better, black with Linux terminal green? :D

I’m pretty sure you can still use the classic signal path view, you don’t have to use focus view, and even then you could try it out, and then save it/back out and see the signal chain

Yeah but DI said I'd be missing out on some features, which would be dumb, for me just being a cranky IT bastard.

Jeez, this again? Stagescape M20d's Smart FX was pretty much the exact same thing. This time we simply chose to show an image of the selected model instead of a big, boring empty field:

There are obviously other screens to look at. IMHO, the signal flow view is the lamest, least helpful, most engineer-brain-centric view in any multieffect. It should only be used when organizing your blocks while first making presets. That might be why I like using HX Effects so much—the signal flow view is hidden in a menu and 90% of the UX is just 1) touch a switch to select, 2) turn knobs.

Once Stadium is shipping, y'all can suggest alternatives for what you want to appear in the Focus view field.
A hot tub ?

So, Agoura brings nothing to FX?

What's going to be new about how ODs, Distortion pedals etc. are modeled? Anything?

Might be but when you use the Helix live it's like visualizing your pedal board, especially if you use your foot switches for snapshots or commands.

But I like to see a customizable live view per preset. Let me see important parameters of my effects, tempo, maybe showcase info, custom map the controllers, add touch sliders. Not something you need for your bedroom but really helpful in a live situation.

I couldn't agree more. I think DI is understating the importance of the classic grid view. Especially for folks that are running multiple signal paths for multiple instruments, and those making a lot of changes while they work.

That said, I happen to really like the big pictures of amps/effects in Focus view. Helps to convey the spirit of the device(s) in use at a glance. As long as nothing else is compromised (e.g. the utility and flexibility of the grid view), why not?

There's nothing wrong with the renders in focus view. Uploading custom pictures sounds like linux-style micro-customization, which I never liked.

The only alternative I could figure out is a setting for not displaying the pictures, for those who don't like them. But when the unit is available, I would almost bet they won't really care about it.
