Is There Anything About Playing Guitar You Dislike, Or Even Hate?

For me it is without a doubt, changing strings. I'll put it off as long as possible, until I either run out of high e singles, or the warbling overtones are driving me crazy. Dead strings? Not enough of a reason. :rofl

A distant 2nd is messing with tones.

I do Love experimenting with my Fractal

What I hate is I dont have enough time to dedicate myself cause you know this thing called work, List of chores and running around

The only thing I hate about playing guitar, is how little I can actually do and how uninterested I am in devoting the time to learning to do so ;~)) I am more interested in writing songs and associated guitar parts than I am in learning how to do acrobatics on the fretboard or learn other players licks, so that is where I spend my time.

As for guitar maintenance (which is NOT playing IMO), I hate changing strings, I hate cleaning, I hate setting intonation, I hate packing up guitar and putting it away, I hate just about everything associated with the guitar that is not playing! I do feel good after I change the strings or clean it up or set the intonation, but I don't like doing it! I guess I need to become a rock star (or at least bloody rich) so I can have someone do it for me!!

The tone chase is not my thing, but I have spent many many many hours finding new tones using my Axe FXIII and it is entertaining, but I then get pissed that I am chasing tones rather than making music!

All first world problems, but that is my story and I am stickin' to it!

The only thing I hate about it is my playing, haha. I have a very low level of natural aptitude but an abundance of love for guitar music and just enough stubbornness to ignore the writing on the wall.

I used to hate much about guitars with Floyd Rose-style floating bridges--changing string gauges or using alternate tunings became a major project, and needing an allen wrench to "fine tune" always irked me. Now I just don't have/avoid guitars with that style of bridge.

I’ve always enjoyed playing guitar, it’s the douchebag musicians one encounters that I despise. Nothing worse than flakes who can’t keep their word…

Of course I'm a doof and took the question literally, and not able to edit posts right now not able to do much but say that I actually enjoy the string changing process, as well as setup and teardowns. I also like driving home at 2am with my leathers smelling like a party. Reminds me of pops.

I guess I just LOVE playing so much, that I don't like dealing with any of the extraneous stuff that goes along with it.

And lately, getting some of my "practice songs" sounding just like they're recorded, is such a high! And this will probably sound obvious, but it's not just about the tempo. Like, right now I'm focusing on getting each note (in fast riffs) to ring right into the next one, legato-like, but with picking, and it just doesn't sound right until that happens. But when it does..., :chef

It's a beautiful thing! (Until I break a string... :facepalm)

Muscular pain.

Not having enough time.

Wife's Guitar-in/Guitar-out rule.

And the fact that still, not even the almighty Axe-FX III, can give me a Blackmore tone. I am often more interested in getting the exact tone than on practicing. But once I get the same tone, I spend hours learning all the playing nuances of that particular guitarists by doing A/B comparisons, measure by measure, on the DAW tracks.

I HATE CABLES. I dream of a world without cables. EVERYWHERE. I HATE CABLES. ANY CABLE.
I don’t mind them. Until they fail. Cables always fail. Why is it 2023 and we still have cables that fail? They should be flawless by now.

And potentiometers. They still fail. Even the expensive ones. Utter crap.

Oh, I’m done with my rant. 😂

I've had, and still use, Whirlwind cables from the 80's. They were touted as some of the best back then, and it seems they were right. I have 4 of them, but 1 doesn't work. I used to be the cable repairman in my 2nd band. :knit

I am so with you. Give me wireless everything, battery-powered everything.

Catch-22: I hate latency; I won't tolerate any signal degradation; I hate having to remember to recharge batteries on a half dozen little components.

P.S. I'm also too lazy to change strings, ever. :D

Being a texture instrument.

I have a love-hate relationship with tone chasing.

Sometimes it’s fun coming up with all the tones and textures I need. Sometimes I wish I could just spend more time playing.
