IK Multimedia TONEX

I just started looking for a used ToneX One just to run stomp captures in front of the presets on the pedal. If they ever figure out a way to run stomp captures in the same preset as amp captures, IK will be the leader in this race. Stadium will probably do it too, but at a much higher price point.
I have found that I always like my real OD pedal over a capture every single time, so while it saves space and is one less thing to power, I prefer running my SD-1 into the ToneX

This is a great use of captures, testing different brand of tubes. Here I’m trying different ones in position V1 on my Friedman Runt50. Now I can really appreciate the differences between them. This could only be feasible with the new Modeler in TONEX.

All my pedals are old and noisy so I like using the digital versions on my Stomp XL, but think that captures will provide some of the sparkle I just cant get out of my XL effects. And I am the first to say I'm probably not doing something right, but I don't want to tweak for hours, I want to practice/play.

I probably just need to buy a new SD-1 but the one I have is from the 90's and the one on my Stomp is decent. Just thinking the captures will be a little better.

Love this. I roll a ton of tubes until I find what I like in each amp. And this happens each time I set them up.

Have a long black plate Sylvania 12ax7 arriving tomorrow. Fun times!

I thought someone said you couldn't gig with a Tonex pedal? Looks like this gentleman is happy:

Definitely! That one is a nice setup, I know people have been asking for pitch shifting on TONEX Pedal/ONE but we squeeze a lot on there already so the drop is probably the best option for there.

For gigging, I don't know who said they couldn't because it sounds like a them problem :) Lyle Wokman used it live on a late night show with a very big act and then on the tour, and I have a friend who played for many thousands of people with TONEX ONE and not much else on the board. For me, being an old man any gigs I can do when I have time are acoustic and I have a VoiceLive 3 Extreme so I haven't really worked TONEX into it but I know there are some who do. Also, I think I could do a lot with TONEX Cab for acoustic (with the IR slots and all) but I haven't mucked about with that too much yet.

I’ve noticed a lot of people running two Tonex Ones for a stereo or wet/dry setup. Anyone tried running a Tonex One along with a big Tonex for that? I’m guessing the latency difference introduces phase issues.

Okay, so I'm finally going to actually buy some captures (see, you really can go this long without doing that! haha). I'm set on grabbing the Benson Chimera and Magnatone Twilighter captures from Amalgam, but since there's the 3 for 2 deal, I'm trying to decide on a third one.

Anyone have any favs from them? Looking for amp only / direct captures, and I play a wide range of stuff, but I'm not particularly looking for high gain amps (at least in the tighter metal sense) right now.

Originally I was eyeing the Tweed Bassman and Vox AC50 as sort of a Marshall-but-fuzzier, but I think the Benson and Magnatone will cover most of those sounds well enough, and I want something that's pretty distinct from those. So maybe an actual Marshall... or a Matchless or something (I don't know much about those amps tbh)? Or maybe I just grab one of those Tonex One amp kits to get a sampling of a few others (also seems to be the only way to get a direct amp capture of an Orange from them).

By the way, I ended up just getting the Benson Chimera for now! I’m glad I did. There’s a lot to dig into here and it’s super versatile.

I devoted my first several banks to it, with each bank being a Clean, EOB (or Crunchy), and Dimed version of the same or a similar tonality.

So the first bank is the darker, more tweed-y side of the Benson. The second bank is “British” sounds (captures where the Bass on the amp was set to 0, which is equivalent to the “British” voicing on the Chimera’s younger sibling, the Monarch). The third bank is mid-scooped sounds. The fourth bank is “balanced” or pedal platform sounds.

This works super well and gets me a lot of different sounds that still all sound related. I’m really enjoying it.

I also have all the presets set so that the Gain and Mids are at 5, and then I have a dual external footswitch hooked to my HX Stomp, and the HX Stomp is setup to send MIDI to the Tonex. In my current main preset on the Stomp, which is primarily acting as post FX for the Tonex, one of those footswitches tells the Tonex to toggle between Gain levels 5 and 8, and the other is set to toggle the Tonex’s Mids between 5 and 8 (as well as giving a slight low cut). All Tonex presets have the EQ at pre-amp.

Anyway, this is really working out for me so far. I’ll probably still grab the Magnatone Twilighter captures at some point and maybe a Marshall (for the headroom vs the “British” settings on the Benson), but I’m in no rush now. Glad I didn’t buy a bunch at once, either way. It’s been fun to get to know this pack.

Hey, @Deadpan, did you upload a V2 version of that Triple Rec a couple of weeks ago? I found it on Tonex and messed around with it a little over the weekend. Nice Cap!

Just a reference to a dipshit from another thread, who claimed serious musicians want an all in one device like a Helix, Fractal, or Kemper.
Certainly many do, and there's also others who like using pedals with a less all-in-one device. I personally like all-in-one devices, but have also gigged with a tonex one and boss sd1 pushing it, and that was great. I don't need anywhere as much as many do.

Dismissing tonex and nam as "toys" (well, most competing solutions) is a sentiment I've seen in some parts of the web and certain company forums, but TGF is much less of an echo chamber, thankfully. I think people here are more able to imagine why tonex can be a good solution for people.

Yeah, and you can also count rigs that use the Friedman and Victory preamps too.

Hey, yeah, I released four V2 capture packs in the Tonex partner section. Each has a free one.

Glad you like it!

Note that the free capture for The Gentleman is a V1 capture.

Awesome! Thank you!! I'll check out the other too.

That Trip Rec I'm using for one of the songs we are doing and it seems to be pretty tight.

I'm going to buy that 50th Triple Modern Pack, but wanted to make sure all those are DI's with IR's, correct?

Thanks again!!

The new DIs are not included in the pack on the site.

There are a couple DI captures in the pack but they are older.

I have considered retiring the pack from the site but have so far left it up in case anyone who purchased needs to redownload.

A test I made today with the Triple DI pack and some IRs:

Are you looking to replace it with an upgrade to V2 captures? That test sounds great!

To me, a Tonex One at the end of the chain is little different than a single or two channel tube amp at the end of the chain, or a Strymon Iridium, a UAD pedal, an FM3 or Helix Stomp, Simplifier, or whatever amp sim device after pedals. All have been gigged.

Right, I agree. Though in all cases I’ve been helping with, they run pedals after, then into a DI. gives it that delay/modulation after gain sound.

True, if you don't have a loop put them after. I used to do the same thing with amps. Pedals, amp, Suhr RL, more pedals, SS power amp, cab. Just replace amp and the Suhr with whatever digital or analog tool gets the job done. Way too many gigs have been played this way to dismiss it.
